Yea chevy parts are definitely cheaper. That's a question I always forget to ask, space on corvettes? I would have to get use to only having a 2 seater how do you find enough room for groceries or just whatever you need to get?

I posted on a corvette board, but it seems very unlikely I can get a
decent 97-99 for anywhere between $10,000-$12,000 dollars or so huh?

That's probably going to be the deal breaker the price.

A lot of people these days are commuting in corvettes, and the newer ones get mid 20s to high 20s in MPG, so that isnt too bad.

The V12 is really the mechanics dream, everything takes 20 hours to do. Seems like you maintained it very well though so that is good. That torque the V12 provides is probably worth it when you get that grin on your face.

Given that you live in California, I would try craigslist first, then maybe autotrader. Dennis Rodman has a 600SEL in the same color as yours, just all kitted out.

You can run an autotrader ad called "til it sells" and you can keep lowering the price. Maybe $15k? Probably would sell for 10-12k pretty quick, I would guess.

I think a Corvette would be really nice to have, plus you can drive cross country and every small town probably will have parts at their local store for it such as ignition coils, water pumps, etc.

I been checking autotrader on and off as well as ebaymotors.

I would be happy if I could get more then what I paid for it 10,000 dollars or even get back what I paid. But on the forum seeing these posts it seems like I'm going to take a loss?

I would be happy if I could get enough to turn around and just use the money for a corvette. But I dont know?

With gas prices going up, I think if someone offers you cash, you should take the money and run. It is probably not worth holding out.

Oh I wouldn't hold out. Just from the posts it's making me nervous that I wont even get my money back. Anyone sell a 92 sel 600 lately? Hahaha, or anything similar or heard of anything lately. It's just so damn hard to find anything like my car that sold to gauge it?/

I wouldn't expect to get your money back on a car of all things.

How long have you owned it? How many miles have you put on it?

A car depreciates - even used cars depreciate. Never, ever expect to get what you paid for a car when you sell it.

Of course there are exceptions...

Well The only reason I expected to get my money back was becaues I picked the car up so cheap when I bought it ( about a year and half or so) Blue book at that time was 12/13,000 dollars. So I figured 10 grand was about 3,000 under going value from what I seen on other cars. So a year and half later getting 40 percent of what I paid is absolutely horrible.

First, as your finding out, the "value" guides do not necessarily track the market. The prime purpose is to support the price marked by the dealer.

They can be useful as a guide, but they are way out of whack when it comes to specialty cars.

One of the best indicators is eBay, because they track the sales price. Remember, askin' ain't gettin'.

Also, in the past year and a half, the market has changed dramatically. Look at how much gas has gone up during that time. This has changed the used car dynamic in two ways, first, the money available for purchase has been eroded by the higher cost for fuel and food, and secondly, vehicles percieved as gas hogs have seen the floor drop out from under their price. Consider the SUV market, for example.

Like the stock market, there is a risk when buying a car. Unlike the stock market, you rarely make money, it's more a matter of managing how much you lose.

Sorry you're not getting the affirmation you seek, but lots of us are in the same position, we also have big engined S classes that have tanked in value.....

A 600 is definitely a high end car with a lot of high end bills. It's not just a little more than an 500, it's head and shoulders above one.

If you have lots of receipts to demonstrate that everything's been well maintained and not just driven until it breaks, you will find yourself in a better position than most benz owners.

Then find yourself a 500E. Want a vette? Don't go by price, go by style. When I graduated from college, the 1984 vette was a dream for some kids. One buddy got one within the year. My favorite is the '65. A friend is trying to sell one of the two 1969 vettes that came with the Z11. That's right exactly 2 exist he's one of the poor suckers that has one. But, the buyer has to like the 1969 body style and then (s)he has to figure out how to rebuild the motor. Paying for the car itself is the least of the problems.

I've always been a pony/chevy kinda guy. They are incredible cars. But, they're not mercedes and never will be. I use my suburban to tow mercedes around. It's excellent for the job. But the mercedes is the great car. The suburban is 100% utility (as were the two pony wagons and the firebird before that).
