Fs: 1987 300D Clinton, NJ

Selling my 87 Mercedes 300D. Dark gray (anthracite gray i think is the tech name) with gray interior. 6 cyl turbo diesel..approx 216,000 miles (driving it daily so it will go up). 30-34mpg. Has #14 head on it but has not cracked. The temp rises to just about 100 when climbing a local big hill but doesn't go any higher. And it made it through the recent heat waves here with no problem. Recent oil change, have new fuel filters to install. Automatic transmission works well, adjusted the shifting so it shifts good now. Slight flare or hard shift here and there. Tires are in decent condition, wheels have some curb rash on them, brakes are good now but front brakes should be changed in the next 2 months or so. Body is in good condition with one dent on the front passenger fender near door that can be pulled out and one rust spot on the drivers door right below the molding in the center. Some rust spots along wheel well Paint was resprayed in the years past by one of the POs so is in good condition. Sunroof works, all windows work. Car doesn't leak anywhere. Power seats only work with door open. It does need a new monovalve because has heat out of vents. AC doens't work. Also doesn't have the trap oxidizer on it.

The car runs well but i have an hour commute to work and starting night classes in the fall thats an hour north of where i work so 3 hour commute is too much with the diesel prices for me. I was going to do WVO but can't dedicate enough time to that.

Any questions or if you'd like to see it send me an email. I have these couple pictures to start.. only of drivers side though.

Asking $3000.

I'm kind of curious to hear the neaxt part of this story. Decent '87 300D's (on the east coast) are becoming less and less common. Whats the story guys ? issues with seller or not ?

When it comes to buying a car, what I consider good or bad, may be a bit different than what others consider good or bad. A good test drive at speeds up to 70 MPH, a really good check for rust, a compression check, and exhaust gas in coolant check and making sure that everything works is a real good indicator of the quality of a used car. Not to offend, but from experience I don't believe too much of what someone says when they are selling a used car.

I bought an 1985 300TD on eBay and had phone conversations with the guy and emphatically asked him several times if the car had rust. His answer was that it had no rust. He was a bold faced liar, but I talked him down from the original price and we were both happy.

Everyone should know what caveat emptor means, especially when it comes to used cars.

I have issues with this seller, so I posted a warning, thats not to say that you will have issues with him.

I don't think the story needs to be told. Just a deal that did not go right...

Unfortunately i probably wouldn't sell to anyone that could not come take a look at the car. It becomes much more complicated. If anyone wants to come see it, drive it, look it over all over please do so.

oil line leaking

Well i've run into a problem with the 300d.. driving to work today i noticed the oil light come on and so i pulled over at a gas station and noticed that the oil was dripping quickly out from the oil cooler area.. looks like oil is coming out from the crimp area near the cooler... so i threw oil in and got it home slowly. I'm not in a position to get this fixed this week or probably next so instead of it sitting i'm looking to sell for $1800. I figure with the price of new lines and time to replace it and wanting to move this so it's not sitting in the driveway.
