1984 Mercedes 190D Diesel

Dependable, well-maintained Mercedes Diesel with a 2.2 liter, 4 cylinder, non turbo engine. The car has an automatic transmission and 140,000 miles on it. I am the second owner, having purchased the car from the original owner, who bought it when she was 67, and sold it to me on her 89th birthday. This car was driven mostly in Florida and was never abused. I have invested more than $3800 in parts and repairs to put this car into great mechanical shape. It has been a daily commuter for my wife, driving about 250 miles per week for the last two years. These cars routinely sell on eBay with 300,000 miles or more, and with the care this one has received, it will surely last longer than that. These diesel engines are some of the best ever made, and I have never had a problem with this one.

Partial list of maintenance and repairs:

-Complete rear brake system--pads, rotors, calipers, hoses
-New brake master cylinder and front brake hoses
-Complete front end--ball joints, tie rods, struts and all mounts and hardware
-Four new tires
-New belt, belt tensioner spring, belt tension shock absorber
-New shifter linkage bushings, in-tank fuel screen, valve cover and intake breather hoses, and fuel return lines
-Speedometer/odometer professionally repaired (these are famous for quitting)
-New front drive shaft flex joint, motor and transmission mounts
-New glow plugs and two injector lines
-New alternator, new battery
-New CD/MP3 player with iPod input, 6 inch 3-way rear speakers, 4 inch front speakers
-All new dash light bulbs and exterior turn signal, reverse, brake and tail light bulbs
-New window regulators, window motors and door checks on both rear doors
-All filters changed regularly
-Transmission and cooling systems flushed
-All fluids replaced with Mercedes recommended fully synthetic fluids
-All parts replaced with genuine Mercedes OEM parts
-Engine tuned up regularly with Diesel Purge, a Mercedes recommended injector and engine cleaner

The car will come with extra fluids, spare parts, Mercedes manuals and original paperwork.

I originally bought this car planning to convert it to run on vegetable oil. These old Mercedes are some of the best candidates for this. I did all of the research, bought the car I wanted, did a lot of work to get it ready, but I never got around to converting it. It would still be a great car for conversion, or to run on bio-diesel. Unlike many of the larger Mercedes cars, this one will get 40 mpg, if you drive it conservatively.

I'm asking $4000. Please email with any questions. The car can be seen in El Dorado or Newton, Kansas. Thanks for looking!

Wrong forum. And a little high if the A/C doesn't work.

Clarification

Wrong forum? Can someone explain? This is where I see all of the other similar cars listed.

The AC works fine on this car. I just forgot to mention it. The only things not currently functional are the cruise control and the power antenna. The antenna would work if a new, clean mast was installed, but because the old one is corroded and dented and wouldn't raise and lower, I disconnected the power unit.

I'll entertain offers if you feel the price is too high. It's frustrating that I've put $3800 into the car (on top of the original purchase price), and I can't get anything even close to what it's worth if someone was to do exactly what I did.

Thanks for looking,
Jason

Yeah, but all of those I have seen are northern cars and rust buckets.

Zimmer- yes, it is the right forum to place your car for sale. Dont fret it.

I just sold my 190D and was literally bombarded with emails of people wanting to buy it. People are wanting the 190D models now because the engines are great and they offer superb MPG.

I had a guy that was going to drive all the way from northern Texas to buy it for $3400, but I sold it before he could get here. If you like, I could relay your car to him. Place the car on Craigslist as well. Seems to generate more interest there for these cars that this site does.

Good luck!

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I'd be glad to have you give my information to anyone who's interested. I do have the car listed on the Wichita Craigslist site, as well as locally and on a couple other forums. It just seems like maybe the market for them has slowed down a little since I bought it a couple years ago.

The cars that can be bought on eBay and elsewhere for $2000 are what I bought a couple years ago--this car. And then I went to work changing out all of the old rubber parts and fixing the brake system, etc. The difference between my car and those other ones is that with the cars on eBay, you often don't know what you're getting, besides the mileage and what you can see. My car comes with all of the knowledge that I have about the car from driving and working on it for the last couple years, plus the value of the things I've fixed and updated. I meticulously document everything, so I have receipts and records for all that I've done. I think that should make it worth more than your average unknown 190D. But maybe I'm wrong.

You're in Wichita, Ks? Not many Kansans here.

I'm willing to take a look/ drive it for any out of state buyers that are interested.

I would recommend using some Mother's clay bar paint saver and a good interior/engine bay detail to help the sale. Good luck.

Why are these good 190Ds so far away?

It would cost me almost $800 to ship this from KS to MA

Good luck selling though!

You have to realize, the $3800 you put in, was also used by the 250 mile commutes. The car is a depreciating asset, and you almost never get out the money you put into it unless you drive it a lot, then sell. The 40 mpg is a selling point, and do not forget to say it can be WVO converted as well.

Price Reduced

I still have this very mechanically sound (but ugly) car for sale. This one would be perfect for WVO conversion and would love a paint job.

Feel free to ask any questions.

The asking price has been lowered to $3000, much as it pains me. I need to get it out of the driveway.

Thanks,

I broke down and listed my car on eBay. If you're interested, please ask any questions.
