not mine

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/835619769.html

the rear bumper looks funky?

(tell me again why a man deeply in debt - maybe that man is, say me? - would even look at such an ad - several times, no less)

because, just like everybody else on this board, you always wanted your own personal rocketship 6.9 and you think "hmmm, that's a decent price for one; i bet the repair cost wouldn't be tooo bad...."

I got mine for about half that cost and it looks much better. That car was posted years ago but they clearly haven't maintained it and since then the rear struts and or spheres have failed.

i know a guy here in l.a. that has one as a daily driver, for the last ten years. But my old mechanic says they are a nightmare. 16 quarts of oil, and the "spheres"? No? And, realistically, eight miles per gallon in the city?

Closer to 10-12mpg, spheres last a good long while and are no more expensive then good shocks. 15 qt's of Castrol GTX costs about $30 so not that painful. I drive mine at least three times per week.

Are they really all they are cracked up to be? I would imagine the engine still has pretty good performance but is it noticably quicker in traffic thirty years down the line when lesser cars have had three decades to improve their performance? And does the air suspension really provide a significant improvement in either ride comfort or roadholding over a conventionally suspensioned 116?
