I bought the car last year from a 30 yr neighbor and had a nice restoration project going - it didnt need much. Today the underhood area of the car burned about a block from the house. Even worse, there was no comprehensive coverage - could this get worse?

Engine compartment rubber burnt out but the rest of the car is ok. We don't have room to part this out, so buyer must take it as is - with a clean Maryland title.

I'm second owner with 135k on the engine and trans. Ran strong, no timing chain or valve noise, no problems other than a small gas leak I have a PERFECT hardtop (red)in storage, and the soft top is good with a few wear spots. Interior is very good. Tires have 100 miles on them. Exterior trim in very good condition. Somebody with time and parts access could easily rewire it, but I don't have the time nor the expertise to recover it.

uh. ok to ask cause of fire? i.e. gas leak,..?

Seems like the gas line failed at connection and sprayed onto rear area of engine until fumes ignited. I emptied a fire extinguisher on it and it went out, but it reignited and I didnt have another extinguisher to knock it down. Fire dept arrived in 3 minutes and knocked it out. Damage is confined to rubber hoses and top of engine wiring, fire wall vacuum lines, coolant tank , and cables that ran across engine. No other damage - of course interior and exterior other than hood is fine. If I was insured I might consider rebuilding, but I wasnt so I can't. A newly rebuilt Becker Mexico with sub miniature input is also available. Never out of Becker USA packing.

Also a like NEW HARDTOP comes with or can be purchased separately. I unboxed this in the neighbor's garage - seems the dealer lost theirs in storage over a number of years and made good. It's just beautiful.
