w123 experts please advise..... w/ jack point hole question

I recently acquired a w123 280e. I was wondering what the thought is using the jack point hole plugs......
did these come on the cars when new?
does it trap junk/moisture in the holes? or prevent it?

I was thinking of putting a coating of cosmolene in the holes and then putting plugs to keep stuff out?
good idea or bad idea??????

thanks for reading.....

I don't see how that could hurt.

I would not use them to jack up the car. It could cause problems later on. Just use a regular floor jack if you can.

Jack hole plugs

I put them in my 500SEC. Smooths out the look. The early 190's(W201) have the best round ones. Still very pliable. Keeps the dirt out
