Selling my 87 190D Turbo 2.5 TEXAS

Nice example of a one-year-only car. 2.5 Turbo in the 190D. Runs great and gets good fuel economy. No blow-by when you pull the cap off. And YES the Air Conditioner and cruise control both work. I'll take some pics to email to seriously interested. Car is blue with grey interior. interior is in nice shape. Has some very minor dings and scratches, but overall has really good curb appeal. A couple of places could be touched-up where the clear coat is worn through, and the windows have tint-film which is old and needs to be replaced. The sun roof works very slowly, so I rarely use it... But it does work. New alternator and tires in the last year. Has full-size matching spare. Clean trunk. Car is not rusted (South Texas Car). This is a good sound car that just needs the usual TLC. Give me a call and come look at it. $4000. Drive it anywhere. You can reach me on my cellphone anytime at 210 789 2764. Steve.

How's the tranny?

I live in TX and am interested. Would love to see some pics.

Looking briefly at some previous posts I see that you were once tackling issues with the transmission. How's it doing now?

Is this the one purchased from Durango Motors in Dallas several years ago? If so was the tranny rebuilt?
If it is a different one, nevermind........

Texas 190D Turbo

Yes, it's the same car. I'm surprised (and a little jealous) to see such good memories at work here on the forum. Though I guess the 190D turbo does qualify as a 'special interest' car... Somebody told me they estimated there couldn't be more than about fifty of them running in the U.S.
The car had only first and third gear when I bought it. I drove it home from Dallas to San Antonio in third gear at 55mph (it got better than 36mpg even at that). I fussed with that transmission for quite a while, but finally ended up replacing it with a good used trans from another 190D turbo thanks to one of the used parts vendors here on the forums. I haven't had any trouble with it in the years since.
If anybody is really interested, my phone number is, once again, 210 789 2764. That's my cellphone and you can call anytime. Thanks.

That was an awesome car and very fun to drive, even in only 1st and 3rd gear! From memory, the interior was in very very nice shape, but the paint job will need to be addressed.
Somebody should really hop on this car, it drove great!!!!

Here is the thread from when I looked at this car in early 2006. Post #21 has some pics of the car although I didn't get the peeling clearcoat.

I drove my first 190D today! Liked it...

Nice looking car.

So it had 287K miles on it two years ago?

70F at the vents won't cut it in Houston but maybe it only needs a charge (or recharge with updated refrigerant).

He will post for himself I'm sure, but being down in the southern part of Texas I'm guessing the AC was dealt with to get things colder.
Mileage will be "up there", but when I drove it 2 1/2 years ago the suspension felt really tight.
Were it a light color I would buy it [for a negotiated price ] If you like darker colors then this would be a nice car for you to own.
{I might need a commission if this sells....}

I'm more of a dash stroker and I love the grey MB-TEX.

The navy blue would not be my first choice but it ain't a deal breaker.

I'm still interested, waiting for some newer, fresher, pics.

I like the colors.

It's not only a 1-year only car, it's a 1-year only 49-state car. Since roughly half of the new Mercedes sold were in California that year, that means that less than half were sold that normally would be, and that half is from a state that usually produces a lot of the nation's rust-free examples, making a rust-free '87 190D turbo a difficult find.

I really liked mine, fun to drive.

I'm pretty sure that out of some 1400, there are quite a few remaining. Finding one with low miles, no salt exposure, heated leather, and black/black would make me happy (and poor).

190D Turbo Texas

Wow, What an explosion of activity on this thread.
I am currently in the midst of moving to a new house... Living at the new house, but we don't have ISP connected till the 23rd, so I have to check my emails when I have the chance here at the old house... At any rate, I'll try to get some pics to send.
The thumbnails from that previous post are pretty representative of the car if you want to look at them. You probably won't see the clearcoat damage unless you come and look at it in person, though.
I don't know who's denigrating my AC... But I can tell you it is ICE COLD. It actually gets uncomfortable if you leave the vent blowing on your steering wheel hand for too long. NO AC PROBLEMS even here in South Texas.
It's a great little car. I'm surprised NoOne has called me yet. My cell number is still 210 789 2764 anytime.

Please see post #9 above for a defense of your AC system.
It was brought up because of my thread from 2006 when the AC wouldn't get below 70 degrees. I knew that being down in the southern end of Texas that the AC would have been addressed.
I am surprised also that no body has called you. You know what that means......
