87 300TD wagon for sale - San Diego
87 300TD wagon 6 cylinder turbo diesel with only 176,000 miles is for sale. Yellow/Palamino $6k.
In June I bought another sweet 87 300TD wagon that I planned to take it to the east coast and leave it at my mother-in-law’s for my family’s summer use. But she died unexpectedly in September, and her home is now for sale. So now I have two 87 TDs (an embarrassment of riches (both are #14 head)), and my wife is suggesting I sell one of them.
This is a good car, and has been my daily driver for the past 3 years. With only 176K, I planned to keep it for years, and have put a lot into it. It has new MB yellow paint that shines almost like a new car. Tinted windows. AM/FM/cassette. No dings or dents. No cracks or mars in the dash. No rips/tears in any of the seats or headliner. It starts strong, no smoke. Runs beautifully and shifts very smoothly through all gears even when cold. This car drives very comfortably and will cruise all day at highway speeds of 70-85mph, and it consistently delivers 25-27mpg combined driving. All power windows and switches work. All interior and all exterior lights work. Both power seats work. The power sunroof, the power mirror, the rear window wiper, and all power door locks work. The visors work in/out/slide, up down, and vanity lights. All wood trim is in good condition, perfectly matched not faded, but shows a slight hairline crack between the window switches as is pretty usual on a W124. It has Euro headlights but not the little wipers. Recent maintenance includes a front and rear suspension rebuilds: new front Bilstien struts, ball joints, tie rod ends, and new self-leveling hydraulic pods and valve in the rear. Almost new brakes: rotors, pads, calipers, and (Discount) tires on cherry almost new stock rims. Two year new battery, radiator, belts, and hoses. New vacuum line rubber connectors, and new injector hoses. All new transmission seals. Rebuilt fuel injector pump. This car does not leak a drop of anything.
The warts: The original, unconverted R12 A/C system is not working. The cruise control wand is loose and works intermittently. The driver's door armrest feels loose when you pull it, but you can lean on it fine. The clock doesn’t tick. Sometimes the radio antenna does not retract fully and has to be coaxed down (on/off). And the liftgate door would rise more impressively if it had new struts.
I think the car did not originally have a 3rd row seat, but that a PO installed it. Anyway, after squeezing into it, knees under my chin and glass like an old VW/Saab windshield about a foot from my face, I was not adequately impressed that it would be as safe in a collision as the front and back seats. So I removed the 3rd seat to get more under-floor storage space. I kept the 3rd seat parts.
If you know of anyone currently interested in a diesel wagon, please let them know. I’d like to pass it on to long-range hands in the MB diesel community. Thanks.
