thought i would check here first to see if anyone has a C36 they wish to sell, also please let me know of any that are forsale elsewhere.

I know of a 1996 C36 AMG,silver/black leather,63k miles,clean,I looked at a Toyota dealer...
they need 7500$ as far as I recall.

Hi Ray, itching for a W202 C36?

If the one in IL is way too far, I know of one near Austin, TX for 7K. It's a '96 model, brilliant silver on black, and in good clean shape... garaged by current 2nd owner.
I thought about it before the holidays but never pulled the trigger.

You know how to reach me in case this is a candidate.

yea was wanting something a bit newer and faster, i am now also looking at C43 (thanks marty). in no rush to buy, but would like something soon and closer. after i get one i will likely sell my 300SDL.

The C43 is a wonderful car. Every time I drive it I smile. The only problem is avoiding the police because you can hardly keep it under 80 MPH. As a diesel driver I am used to having to be timid on the merging lanes but this monster shoots from 30 to 60 in just a couple of seconds.

I am also pleasantly surprised to report that even with a moderately heavy foot the C43 returns around 20 MPG in the city and mid 20's on the highway. Very respectable for a car chipped to 329 HP

I have seen them selling for under $10K on ebay and to me if you can find a well maintained one in that price range it is the greatest bargain German "muscle car" out there.

went to san clemente california to check one out today, looked great in the pictures, asking price was $10,400.00 under 100k miles
it was in really bad shape. dents on the doors, all tires bald/worn uneven, asr and abs light on,. left motor mount broken, needed diff reseal hood was badly pitted. lower control arm bushing etc... decided to pass. seems like more trouble than i wanted to get into, it was worth in my opinion $7-$8k max

Their asking price is about what I paid for mine, but mine was pretty nearly flawless with 94K on it. It was owned by a former army ranger who retired from the service and the interior was like new while the exterior was a 9/10. He had two sets of AMG wheels which he gave me (the monoblocks and the 5 spokes) and had the car chipped by powerchip when he first bought it. Not something I would have done but it was done nonetheless.

Look hard and you will find a nice one - personally I don't care for the two tone interiors some had. Mine is pure black on black but the silver on black is nice too.

The one you described sounds to be to be worth even less than your estimate. Too bad you are clear on the other side of the country...I could take you for a ride in mine (not that it comes out this time of year unless the roads are perfectly dry, that is).

Ray Ray RAY!! You're absolutely correct about the San Clemente C43. Walk away, period. The one I referred to you in TX is like night & day compared to the one you looked at. Knowing you though, I trust your MB judgement... hopefully a nice clean one will pop-up in your neck of the woods, but odds aren't easy on this one.

Here I am in Chicago, gonna go looks one in the morning and if it is good I will but it, 103k miles a d originally a California car, less than $10k
If I get it am gonna stop in pennysylvania then north Carolina before heading back to San diego. Now if I can only get to sleep!!

That's quite a circumvented way to get back to San Diego! Good luck!

I hope that car has suitable tires - I would not want to drive it in snow unless it had all weathers at the very least. Many owners don't drive them in the winter and keep performance summer treads on them year round so make sure the rubber is OK for the conditions you are likely to encounter before you set off.

well I bought it and it far exceeded my expectations!!
Have driven it to Chicago and all is well
Only issue is steering is off center her slightly and it needs a
Wiper insert. Sofar so good

Glad to hear your trip was not wasted, congrats!

What do you think of that nice 4.3L V8 power in the W202? It's certainly more than enough to get you into trouble, right? Since mine was already chipped for extra performance when I bought it I don't know how the standard setup is but I would guess even at the rated 300+ HP it makes you smile every time you press the pedal. And, I bet you'll be happy with the highway MPG too. Happy Motoring!

I had to replace the drag link in mine because of a worn inner tie rod end, then I had the dealer align it after I did the work. You can't buy just the inner ends - only the outers but the drag link comes with both inners and outers. My car had less miles than yours so you might want to check the front end for play and then, if it checks out OK have it aligned to remedy the off-center wheel.

well i am finally back home and all went very well. no speeding tickets or other incidents. only a few events took place that significantly caused me some issues. first was due to the ice storm i was sitting still on I40 just outside of henrietta oklahoma, was there for more than 10 hours and moved less than 100ft. was around 22*F and i was way too low on fuel. traffic finally moved and made it to town for fuel and a room.
second issue was a simple wheel balance may have knocked off a wheel weight while driving on the icy roads. the third was i hit an icy bridge in arkansas i literally though me and the car was finished!! ESP kicked in and set the car back in line!
put around 4500 miles total, thought it would be best to get an oil service, had that done at the mercedes dealer in chicago before i hit the road. price was reasonable and they got to it right away, being a mercedes tech, this is the first time in my life that someone other than myself has changed my oil!!
i was also surprised too see the dealer visit for the oil service from the 23rd already showing on carfax report.

i ended up going to Illinois for the C43 i bought, was far but worth it
