the slip is not there, its between the engine and the tranny so at a given output shaft rpm the engine is turning faster so thus a lower max speed in gears.

Leave it to the germans to build two different speedos in such a case.

I believe I have a 346 correct speedo if you need one, from a stick (the speedos seem to vary slightly to allow for slip in the automatic equipped cars). I'll test it for slip if you are interested.
I assumed you were referring to variation in the actuall speedometer reading, not the position of the hash-marks.

If it was the speedometer reading, I was trying to say that regardless of whether it's a manual or automatic, where the speedometer is connected, there's no slip in the drivetrain that requires any speedomster allowance or variation.

Assuming an automatic (or clutch) was slipping like crazy, allowing the engine to scream at 5000 rpm to push the car at '65 mph, (almost like what my automatic 240D sounds like on the freeway) the speedometer should still accurately register 65 mph.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Why don't you try contacting the owner? Send him an email by clicking on his username and selecting "send email". Or a PM. It looks as if he is still active. As of this post his last log-on was 2/12/12 at 3:53PM.

MERC Master is his user name. His last post on this thread is right above your first post. Click on his name and there will be options. Probably the easiest would be to email him.
