62k-mile 1982 300D - very original, great driver
1982 Mercedes Benz 300D diesel with 67,000 miles; very original condition.
This is a Grandma’s car – bought new by her in 1982, all services done when needed. She never opened the sunroof or the windows and rarely took it on the highway. Has some door dings and paint nicks from her husband’s car which was kept in the garage next to it. I have original bill of sale, all service documents (about an inch thick), original dealer inspection, everything from 1982 to current. Well-treated by her, except for the door dings. The exterior has a small surface rust spot on the door from the door dings (see photo); this is a rust-free car – no underbody rust, no underhood rust, no water drain rust, no frame rust. Paint imperfect - has some spidering that doesn’t show up in photos – but shines very well from five feet. Chrome perfect. Rubber perfect. Original windshield and all original windows. No accidents. Drives as good as it did in 1982. The car has never sat for long; was always in use. Drives straight; no vibrations and no pulling. AC is amazingly cold (R12); no vacuum leaks. When I bought it, I had the motor mounts replaced, the valves adjusted, and new fuel filters installed – all my by MB-only mechanic. Drives as close to new as you can get – I’ve owned lots of w123s over the years, and this one is best. The oil downtube leaks a drop after a very long drive – needs to fixed, but not bad enough to fix yet. Interior is simply stunning. All original. Seats firm. Switches firm. Carpets unstained. Wood excellent (never replaced). Dash without cracks. Everything works and works well. A solid 10. This is a great car in all means except for the door dings. I look at it as the ultimate low-mileage w123 driver-quality car; it doesn’t overheat in the Texas sun, everything works, and it drives wonderfully, but you don’t mind parking it in a parking lot and have someone rub up against it. Selling because I found and am buying an extremely low-mileage w126 500SE, and I have no use for two sedans. $8500

I like 'em documented, low-miled, one-ownered, and well-sorted.

The trim piece and paint touch up are nominal and think worth your time and effort to correct prior to sale.

What was your sales price garnered for the car?

Is the question, did I get what I wanted? Dang close; close enough. I wanted to sell the 300D prior to getting the 500SE, but if there was an overlap, that would have been okay, too - just not preferred.
I'm getting the 500SE on next Friday. Can't wait for that one.

Since it's a done deal, I wondered what the market in dollars was on a car like that.
