190E 3.2 conversion

I am selling my 3.2 Wald conversion

List of mods:

1994 3.2 motor installed..approx 110,000 miles on motror..compression was uniform and very good at last check

400 E brakes all four corners

Limo front sway

Evo II rear sway

FK springs will Billie Sports

Wald Kit on car

16V steering box

16V 5 speed getrag trans

Clutch plate and clutch disk from 300E manual (new)

16V seats

adjustable camber plates front

adjustable camber arms rear

adjustable sway bar links rear

XM radio

nice JL sounds conversion with (4) x 10's in rear

Remus muffler, high flow cat

EVOII 17" wheels

Momo steering wheel and shifter kit

Wald interior lighting

Euro headlights with HID conversion

Runs much better with 300E clutch conversion...original 6 puck race clutch was like an "on/off" switch..only lasted maybe 5000 miles each on two clutch plates...tore up flywheel and pressure plate both times.

Car runs and drives very well...just spent almost $1200.00 on clutch conversion and repair.

Offers around $9000 will be considered. Car runs much better now than when purchased..is reasonably civilized to drive..turns a lot of heads.

Looks nice.

Mike,

Good luck with the sale. Have you taken my old 16v apart yet?

Nope she's still parked..still trying to decide which way to go...restore it or part it...drives so nicely I hate to part it...but then the other body and suspension is really nice too....My dilemna continues.

I believe so...the car appears lighter in those photos due to being freshly waxed and in bright sunlight....actually appears quite a bit darker than that most of the time...pics not photoshopped though.

Me likey!

How many miles on body? How is body/paint/interior condition?

How much HP in the 3.2 motor?

I can see you've done a TON of stuff, which is awesome. How does it feel/drive? Like factory, meaning smooth, etc or is it kind of rough or do parts feel like they don't belong there? Not trying to imply anything, but I have driven many conversions where you could feel that they were conversions, and some that drove/felt like they came from the factory that way.

I'm in Doylestown, very tempting.

The original body is an /89 2.6, and the non functional odometer says around 225,000...however the body is sound except as noted below, and the rest of the drive/ride components are either new or replaced from other donor cars..the guy who built this car did a decent job.

If you look at the work done, you might be able to tell it was set up for cross country club racing...in that context it drives very well....factory never built many cars this "stiff" with such oversize sways and very stiff suspension..so does it drive like a factory car? no...Does it drive well in context?...yes..very fun car to drive. All the mechanics that have driven this car..who are generally euro sports freaks, want me to keep this one...I just like the style of the old 16V's and the potential of that little 4 banger.

The previous owner had installed a six puck organic race clutch good to 600 hp..and about 5000 miles...maybe....In the current set up I replaced the six puck with a Mercedes clutch plate from a 300 SL 24Valve motor for along with the pressure plate, and ground/lightened flywheel. It is now reasonably civilized to drive..previous set up was like having an "on/off" switch.

The Dynoed output was 167.5 hp at around 4900 rpm's but measured in 4th....might have raised it if done in third...given that the rear is a 3.27 from a 16V auto, and using the 16V getrag...losses were given for this set up at around 22%..this brings the motor output to around 214.7 hp at the flywheel...close to stock. Because of the mish mash of components used..it was impossible to get a computor set up that matched the exact ratio configuration.

The interior is nice, although two tone..black seats and mats with a tan door card. Steering wheel is Momo, as is the shifter, dash is carbon fiber..seats are nice but not perfect..small separation in the stiching in the seat cushion..dash has been recovered with a good job, brake light stays on..issue from the conversion to 400 E brakes I suspect.

There is no AC and the back up lights were never connected...not sure why(think the switch is different because the original body was an automatic)..am working on that now, turn signal indicator does not return to off from every position, rear sway links make noise over bumps due to metal on metal heims ends.

Paint is iffy..there are several small dings in the doors, and the last paint job was..well...amateurish to say the least....looks ok with a fresh detailing, but not a great job...needs a good re-spray...hence why I am only at $9000..leaving room for the paint...I was asking $12,000 with the paint re-done. Some minor cracking in the corners of the fiberglass Wald front bumper.

I have given you all the negatives...which generally fade away if you get a chance to drive the car....and see why it's worth the money.

It's a grin maker...and although that part of me certainly enjoys it...most of the attention it gets is from generations once or twice removed lol. Most of whom have trouble reconciling this grey hair and aged face with the ride.

I have almost always had cars that were more fun than practical (personal cars that is)....and apparently it's a habit that's hard to break. However with three 16V's lurking in the wings, parting with this car is not too difficult...the money will go into turning one of the 16 V's into a an old man's fantasy mobile.

Same car (I purchased it in April of /08) but the conversion to the Getrag 5 speed is completed, along with the addition of a glass pak resonator and a new Mega flow cat to the exhaust, different clutch as mentioned, replaced fuel pump relay, and OVP, tires, etc etc.. Do not know the weight, but car runs very strong. The only change I may make yet is to open up the exhaust..parts are only 2', and seem to restrict the flow a bit.

3.2 conversion up-date

Car is getting heating system sorted out as we speak, HID headlights have been replaced with stock bulbs...rear back up light has been added to the system, wiring sorted out in general on the car, next will be a full body job, and I may replace the Wald front air dam with a nice one I have from a 16V, to raise the front clearance to practical levels. NOS anyone?
