1991 560SEC
I live in the Los angeles area and am considering selling my 1991 smoked silver 560SEC. The car has only 54,000 miles and is in pristine condition. I am the second owner and bought the car from a private party in 1993. It has always been garaged and serviced in a timely manner. I am not driving very much now and am thinking of using my wife's car or buying a smaller car for me. The local Mercedes dealership laughingly offered me $3500 on a trade and a private aquaintance who is a Merecedes enthusiast offered $5000. The Kelley Blue is $7050 and NADA is $9275.
What would be a fair selling price and the best way to sell the car? Is ebay a good option? Thanks very much for any help. |

I would think you could certainly get seven or eight thousand for it, based upon your description, maybe more. of course, it all depends on how patient you are.
How about posting a picture? yours sounds similar to the one JimB just bought down there.

I just got out of that market with my purchase of a 30k-mile 500SE, but I can tell you I would have paid you $10,000 for your car. 1991 is the best and last year - they're worth more. 54,000 miles is nothing for a car like that. That color is very desireable too - it's the same color as my 500SE!
$5000 is pittles for that car. $10,000 is a fair deal for someone. $15,000 is doable for some people who wants the "right car" (takes a long tiime). All of this is 100% depending on CONDITION. The prices I gave are if the car is amazingly good - not perfect, but amazingly good and documented. Ebay should be your last option. Take seven or eight very good photos, post the car for sale here, on www.BenzWorld.org, on the www.MBCA.org site, on www.craigslist.com, and then pay the $75 for an ad on www.autotrader.com. If all those fail to produce a buyer, then put the car on ebay with a reserve at about $10,000, start the bidding at $4,000, and don't tell askers what your reserve is. If you write a good description that's thorough, you'll get the $10k on ebay.

LA market has the majority of the SEC's in the nation. I have bought 2 from LA. The miles do warrant a good price (higher than the 5000) but i really think especially now with the tigh fist low ballers out there that 7500 would be a fair deal for a purchaser to get a good deal and for you to sell it in a timely manner. Remember all the people who you will have to talk/show/drive the car before it goes too. No one thinks of that - then you have to make sure they have the $ before you waste your time. It isn't a easy deal. But Sounds like a sweet SEC - As POS stated the best year (last) and great miles will drive someone to you ...I haven't seen a $10,000 SEC go on ebay in quite some time....

Black one in LA on Ebay

I didn't get any engine bay or undercarriage pics. I had already done a CarFax on it and discovered it's spent it's life in New York. Only recently came to LA.

Thank you all for the prompt responses and the very helpful suggestions. Selling the car privately sounds quite time consuming and like a full time job. I will take some photos and post them in the next day or two. Again, thanks everyone for your help.

Had this car been around when I was looking for one, I'd pay 8k no problemo.
