FS: 1987 Mercedes 190D Turbo~Runs & Drives but needs work

I'm posting this for my brother.

He has a 1987 190D Turbo Diesel for sale. He's owned the car since July 2000 and needs to sell it to thin down the heard. He lost his job earlier this year and can't keep two vehicles plus his RV.

The 190D has 236,217 miles on it currently and the Odometer DOES work. The body of the car is in good condition overall, typical scratches, dings, and a small dent here and there for a car of this age/miles. The paint is believed to be original and looks good from 10-20 feet but is oxidizing on the trunk lid and is a little weak around the window/door trim. The car has very small amounts of rust- the key areas being 3 of the 4 jacking points, a small amount under the passenger rear tail light, and a small amount under front passenger door. That's the only bit of rust we can see without it being on a lift.

The interior is also in good condition overall. The seats all look great except the driver's seat which has a tear in the bolster. Headliner looks good, carpet is free of any major stains but is coming loose around the front door sills. The dash top is crack free but there is a crack around the button for the rear dome light (which doesn't work). The wood looks nice, maybe a small hairline crack or two around the shifter but nothing hideous. All glass is good- windshield was replaced around 3 years ago and still looks new. Windows are tinted and were tinted when he purchased almost 9 years ago so it does look a little aged.

Mechanically, the car runs and drives but needs some work to get it to a daily driver status. To me, the car idles a bit rough (say at a stop light). It doesn't start easily- you have to pump the accelerator while trying to turn the key for it to start (not sure the problem here- starter?). It may need a wheel bearing but I'm not sure which side. The (auto) transmission was rebuilt at 190k miles (have the receipt-$1,500) but has a hard shift when going real slow so it may need some adjusting to get it just right. A remanufactured Turbo was put on in May '06 @ 206k (have the receipt- $900). To be honest, the car was his daily driver up until late '06/early '07 when he got a second vehicle. Since then the car has only been driven sparingly. When it was his daily driver he kept the maintance up on it so it would be reliable transportation. Right now, he's in no position to put any money towards it and just needs it gone.

Here's a run down of what works and doesn't:
-Odometer works, speedometer works, but trip meter doesn't work
-Clock doesn't work
-Cruise Control works
-Car has Dual power seats which both work in each position (except headrests)
-Sunroof works but sticks when closing so may need some greasing
-A/C appears to blow but isn't very cool/cold. I'm NOT saying it just needs a charge. These cars are always problematic when it comes to their A/C systems. I can check on it more but the last time I drove it it appeard to blow.
-All lights work with the exception of the fog lights
-The two front windows work but the rear ones don't (don't know what's wrong with them, don't really care.)
-Antennae doesn't go up all the way

Along with what's been mentioned already, the car could use a new hood pad. The car was hit in a parking lot a few years back and he had to replace the headlight assemblies and the front grille. The front bumper sustained some damage to the passenger corner (its cracked). Just wanted to clarify this.

Oh yes, tires are Michelins. All four were origianlly replaced at 199k miles but for one reason or another that I can't remember (may had a blow out?) he had to replace one of them at 225k miles (April '07) which gives you an idea of how little the car has been driven the past few years. They're all matching Michelin Harmony's but one is just a little newer than the others.

The car is located in Antioch, Tennessee which is about 10 miles South of Nashville. Car was previously tagged and titled in Florida and still has Florida tag/title (which is clear).

He's asking $2,700 but will listen to REASONABLE offers. NO low ballers and NO tire kickers. NO trades except for green paper with dead presidents! Would like to sell by end of month if possible as he won't have nowhere to park it unless towed back to Florida to parents house. (Which reminds me- I probably wouldn't recommend driving this car long distance as-is. It needs to be fixed first or checked out to see if it can be driven that much distance).

I have more pictures that I can send to SERIOUS parties only! This isn't a game or time for picture collectors. If you're seriously interested in buying this car then contact me for more pictures at the e-mail address below:

To contact my brother about the car you can call his cell at 615.712.0135 or e-mail him at: bryanwain(at)bryanwain(dot)com

He doesn't know I've placed the ad here so if he acts like he doesn't know what you're talking about give him time (he does know the car is for sale though!)

I don't check back here often so please e-mail me or call/e-mail him for fastest response.

Forgot to mention. The car will need a new/used pair of sunvisors (about $50-$75 on ebay). As you can see we had to come up with a clever device to hold up the sunshade!

Edit: Also, he's kept about 90% or so of the Service records since he's owned the car. He bought the car with around 100k on the clock. So the last nine years accounts for over 50% of the mileage on it. Don't have any records from prior owner(s) sorry.

Repair History

Here's some spreadsheets he made a few years ago of the service repair history. He also made some that kept track of his fuel economy going back and forth to where he worked.

I did forget to mention on the first post that the vacuum door locks don't work. Probably from sitting for a while(??).

Let me know if you need more pics. Have tons of them and will try to post some key points like the rust areas when I get a chance.

Due to lack of storage space the car has been relocated to our parents house in Newberry, Florida which is about 10 miles West of Gainesville. Car was driven there and now has either a garage or a covered carport to sit instead of being kept out in the open of an apartment complex.

Please call/text the owner @ 615.712.0135 if interested or e-mail him @ bryanwain(at)bryanwain(dot)com

Thanks.
