Just put my 350SDL on craigslist. I don't expect to sell it on this forum but thought I should post. A little flexible on price for forum members.

I won't be surprised if I get close to my asking price though.

I got a phone call from a pro today... Lied to me at least 3 times.

First he asked me to describe the car. I told him I described it pretty accurately in the ad and would be happy to answer questions. Lie #1: He said his wife gave the number and he didn't see the ad. I know he lied because he brought up specifics in the photos later in the conversation that only someone saw the ad could see.

Then he lied again, saying he wasn't mechanical and would like me to tell him what the head gasket is. I explained, and he later asked if the motor still had good compression and if oil getting in the coolant was causing it to overheat. Quite a bit of mechanical knowledge for a guy who doesn't know what a head gasket is.

Then he started in on price. I said I don't like to haggle over the phone and since I just listed the car I'm not going to come down much. He kept pressing me for a lower number, after me repeating this, so I finally broke down and asked what he was willing to pay. He said "all he have is $1000 cash" lie number 3.

I pretty much laughed him off, and said I specifically put no lowballers in the ad so I didn't have to deal with lowballs like that. He asked what I had in mind, and I said we can talk if you want to come look at the car.

He said he would call at 6:00 and come by... Oh wait, its 6:15... lie #4.

Got a phone call from a different person. Supposedly he's coming to look in an hour.

Also got an email with no questions about the car, not asking to come see it, not even any formality. No subject in the email, and message says, "I'll give your $1450 for it." Not a ridiculous offer, but I'm not going to haggle over email with someone who won't take the time to write more than one sentence.

My response:

"Thanks for your interest. I'd prefer not to discuss price over email or phone, especially since you have not seen the car yet. Since I just listed it for sale, and have someone coming to look at it in an hour, I'm not willing to come down on price much. Feel free to call or email if you would like to come see the car and discuss details in person. "

We'll see. From my experience I don't believe anything until the cash is in hand. I'm selling because I've decided not to part with Ol' Turbo. This was slated to be its replacement.

Had another phone call from a person with a middle-eastern accent trying to lowball me without even seeing the car. He said more or less that he was a mechanic who flips cars.

Stick to your asking price. Even if the car needs a new head gasket, where are you going to find a highway cruiser with such presence for such a low total cost? You may not sell it to one of us, but if the money is green, who cares where it came from. Best of luck!

Selling a car here for a premium price is next to impossible. I'd love to sell it to forum members otherwise, but I don't want to give it away.

we all know its in need of a head/head gasket/ motor swap lol.. If I had room I'd be all in on it.

Yeah, I'm not hiding anything that's for sure.

Remember the guy that broke the banjo bolt (or was it the alda) on the 300D then tried to dump it? He's gotten in trouble over in Benzworld recently failing to deliver wheels and not refunding the $500.00

Even selling the one car I have, man is it annoying dealing with people.

One of my most memorable calls was from a woman asking if the car would hold her 5 kids/herself/husband. I said "did you even look at the ad?"...her: yes, will it?

I then explained that on a good day with extra small people it will hold 4 very uncomfortably....so she just says "ok" and hangs up. Do people do no research?

I feel for you.....I don't think I could handle the wackos craigslist digs up on a regular basis.

Ohh my god.....I will talk to my wife!! I have been looking for a nice 1990 ish diesel....You think it would make it to Indiana? I need AC and if it really works, I think I can sell her on the idea. I would not want to drive it back to Indiana unless you plan on completely replacing the motor.

It is SOLD by the way. Full asking price.
