300E 5 speed Impala/saffron tex high miles

I took an '86 300E 5 speed in p/ex for one of my 400E's.

Car has 290k miles but runs great everything works as far as I can tell, even the a/c. Car has had huge money spent on it at the main dealer almost everything mechanical has been replaced, I have a file 3" thick of receipts.

Has some body rust in the usual places.

I'd like to try & get $1500 for it

From what I can tell going through the invoices, nothing has been done to the bottom end.

It still hows good oil pressure & starts great hot or cold.

The console wood is one of the best I have seen for an early car. I have some impala fenders & a hood that are rust free that can go with the car.

Its had amongst other stuf, recently:

valve seals
fuel distributor
front seal
valve cover gasket
cam seal
a/c compressor
fuel pump
Genuine MB front exhaust pipe ($1200!!)
calipers
rotors
starter
alternator
shocks
springs
control arms
rear links
motor mounts
center driveshaft bearing
flex discs
transmission mount

I can find no mention of headgasket nor clutch, but clutch feels strong.

I don't have many pictures, my kids broke my camera over the July 4th weekend, I'll shoot some more pics soon.

Would the M103 5-speed mate to your M104? If so...go for it! You'll have the perfect donor car. All the linkages, pedals, etc. Great price too. Then, you can part out the rest and recoup your initial investment. And, you'll have a fun, fun car to drive, especially being a Sportline!

Apparently we all have the same idea.

My two options were:

I know for a 3.6 Renntech 103 motor that sure would look nice in front of that 5 speed.

I have an '87 300D that needs a transmission.

I have too many other projects cooking though.

Yes it would! I could even use a 5 speed dogleg from a 190e 16V . Only differences between the 190 would be the flywheel. I would need to get a flywheel (preferably single mass) from a 6 cylinder 5 speed 190 or like this 86 300E which already has a single mass. Generally, just about every single transmission of the late 80s and 90s have the same bellhousing, but the later m104 5 speeds have a dual mass flywheel which I don't want in my car. Performance and reliability thing.

I know it would make a killer car. Imagine a M104 Sportline Coupe 5 Speed. Oh the fun I could have and have a very unique car at that. I prefer buying a car locally though. This ones a tad far away.

The only thing I could say to that is, "Damn."

Allen, make a road trip and drive it home! You won't have expectations of it being a show car, only that it "runs and drives". And it only needs to get you home before it gets stripped of all the 5 spd bits. I did the same recently, now have a 5 spd conversion on the shelf just waiting for when mom (80 this year) decides to stop driving and gives the E320 back. I parted the rest, took almost a year (even at rock bottom prices).

900 miles and a 14 hour drive doesn't sound too bad.

So tempting.....I love our 300E....but with a 5 speed! DROOL. My 300SD has fallen out of commission as its trans has become crippled recently. BUT, the temptation to get a car like this and just part out my W126 is strong.
