1979 240D 4-Speed $700 (pending!)

This ad is my 1979 240D 4-speed manual. I can get you pictures of whatever you want on request, and also I will post some here soon, just have to get the camera.

PLEASE READ: I use this car everyday. I can't really sell it until I have a new car! I can buy a new car quicker if I know there is interest in this car, and I do intend to purchase something in the near future. However, don't hesitate to let me know what your situation is and I could probably work something out.

Below is a description of the car (I talked about it a little over in the diesel forums). I would like $700 for the car, but don't hesitate to shoot me an offer. I am selling the car because of the rust problems, but also because I have nowhere to mess with a car right now. I owned the car for around four years. I hate to have it go.

rmcfarlan@gmail.com
I live in St. Joseph, MO which is 45 miles or so North of Kansas City, MO.
Let me tell you about the car.

1979 240D Maroon
4-speed manual
106xxx miles on odometer (no way to know)

The good:
-Good running engine and transmission
-4 new bridgestone tires
-less than one year on: new battery, injectors, pin-style glow plug upgrade
-Working York compressor A/C (charged with 134a) (no bullcrap "it just needs a charge", I replaced compressor, valve, drier, and all o-rings and charged it two summers ago and it works fine. Conversion to r-134a never gets extremely cold, though.
-manual sunroof, manual windows, manual door locks, manual A/C and heater control. All work.
-No cracks in glass
-Upgraded alternator to 90A model
-New (reman'd) turbo-series starter 1 year ago
-Started this car with no block heater down to 15F plenty of times in the winters.
-Almost new set of reman'd Bosch injectors ( I have the old ones if you want them)

The bad:
rust
rust
engine burns some oil with blowby
rust
faded paint
needs a valve adjustment

The ugly:
the passenger side sway bar mount (by the firewall) got all rusted out and corroded apparently by an old leaky battery and broke off. So, the guide rod is not attached on that side. Not good.

I definitely did not list everything here (good or bad) but this is what comes to mind. So, basically, it's a rolling parts car right now. If you fixed the sway bar mount it might be usable as a winter beater, but it's not worth dumping money at. I don't just want to send the car to the crusher, it seems like it would be worth more than that to someone on this site. I will craigslist it once I have another car, but I just wanted some opinions, and figured it might be useful to someone on this site.

Please, feel free to email me (rmcfarlan@gmail.com). You can PM me but I may not get it as quickly. I can give you a phone number, and address if you E-mail me. I will reply quickly. If you want to see the car, I can arrange for that as well. Thanks.

-Riley

Something with a gasoline engine. I love my diesel but I have nowhere to plug it in. I don't want to spend too much money. Something German (Mercedes, BMW) would be nice, but I have looked at a couple of Volvos too. I also looked at a couple of nice buicks. (sigh)

I think I want another diesel Benz sometime, just not really right now. I really enjoyed this car, but I need the reliability factor to be a little higher. I don't have to travel far. If you have something of interest, let me know. Thanks!

Car Officially for sale

I just posted a Craigslist Ad with pictures. The price is still 700 dollars, but for a forum member I would definitely take a reasonable offer.

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/1382702072.html

Also, literally days after I said the A/C worked, it died. This is really frustrating, but the compressor still turns freely. Looks like something sprung a leak, but I don't know where.

Please, don't hesitate to shoot me an offer. Send it to my E-mail at rmcfarlan@gmail.com, as I will see that sooner than a PM.
