86 560sl - FS - Atlanta, GA

1986 560sl – 103k miles, Arctic White Exterior - Palamino Interior | $11,000

Comprehensive write up and pics here http://www.klendesign.com/560sl/index02.htm

This car is in very nice condition both mechanically and aesthetically. It does not need any work and is ready to enjoy as is. The exterior paint is what Mercedes called Arctic White and the interior is Palamino.

This car has 103,000 miles and has had all required and recommended service work done plus a few extras. I bought this car from a gentleman in Birmingham, Alabama who was the second owner as I know it, so I am the third owner. As soon as I brought it back from Alabama I immediately took it to Jonathan Hodgman’s shop Blueridge Mercedes Benz – he handles MBs from 1970 to current but is well known nationally for his older Benz capabilities. He has been through the car thoroughly and since then my girl friend has used it as a daily driver. She is in real estate, so while she enjoys it, she really needed a sedan. Jonathan recently finished work on her sedan and so this car is now for sale.

Driving Impressions
This car drives very well. It feels incredibly solid – it has a lot of torque and horsepower. It is an easy driving car both intown and on the highway. It turns on a very small radius and is incredibly easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

Full Disclosure
For me, it is a real pleasure to confidently buy a car from an honest seller. I’ve taken the time to detail everything I know about the car below. You’re welcome to ask me any questions that are not covered. You are also welcome to call Jonathan Hodgman’s shop and ask him anything. If you’re interested in calling him please tell him you want to talk with him about Jody’s 560sl. Please be polite and considerate of his time 404.805.1357

I encourage serious buyers to do a PPI. If you are serious, please identify the shop of your choice and set up an appointment. I will make sure the car is at their shop at the time specified. PPI inspections usually take about an hour, so I will make the car available for up to two hours.

Price & Showing
I don’t have to sell this car, so the price above is not negotiable. If you are considering making a low ball offer, please don’t waste your time or mine at any point. I am keeping the car in a garage around the block from my home in Inman Park. I will show it as my schedule permits. I will not show the car in the rain or at night. Serious buyers will want to see the car in the daylight and also want decent weather when they test drive. All test drives will be accompanied by myself or my assistant and require direct proof of a valid driver’s license. Sorry, but it is a sign of the times.

Mechanical
When I got this car is was way out of tune and several items needed attention - others were recommended by Jonathan so I had them done.

New ac/heater blower motor

New spark plugs, hd wires, rotor

New fuel filter + fuel line

New O2 sensor (passes emissions easily)

Timing chain, tensioners, rails, clips (if you’re not familiar with these cars – failure to do the timing chain and guide at about 100K miles can turn your cars engine into a huge paperweight.)

New Ball joints all the way around

New shocks in the front and rear

New sway bar bushings

New sub-frame bushings

Transmission service included: drain pan, and torque converter, new filter and gasket)

Rear differential service (flush and refill with Haploid 75/90)

New front brake rotors

Brake fluid flush and refill with MB Super DOT 4

Replace one rocker

Complete coolant system flush and refill

New CPS (crank position sensor) - OK – this sensor was seized in the port where it sits, so Jonathan had to drop the transmission to get it loose. Not fun, but while he had the tranny out we double checked all seals etc. . . . so everything looks good.

New transmission mount

New shift bushings

New K&N filter

A/C is serviced and blows cold (converted)

The car drives, turns, stops and operates well in all environments. It does not need anything.

Exterior
The exterior is in very good shape. No rust, major scratches or defects. I need to be clear – this is not a concourse car.

Interior
The interior is in good shape. When I got the car the driver’s seat was pretty beat up on the left bolster and the stuffing/springs were kinda worn out. I bought 2 OEM replacement seats from a low mileage SL that had been in a front end crash. I also purchased and installed the center arm rest and headrests from that car to get a consistent color match. The replacement seats are in good condition visually and sit well. The passenger seat is close to perfect and the driver’s seat left bolster has a minor amount of noticeable wear. The seats have been moisturized and conditioned with Leatherique and are in nice shape.

Known Problems

For a 23 y/0 car these are fairly minor, but in the spirit of giving an accurate and honest representation here the flaws:

The dashboard indicator for a running light is on, but no bulbs are out or missing. We’ve run this rabbit and find no signs of the cause.

The stereo was replaced by the previous owner, but I believe I have the original/OEM.

The soft top has a 4 inch cut – which really sucks b/c the rest of the top is in beautiful shape. We rarely had the hard top off so never had cause to worry about it.

I'm looking, looking, looking...but alas, can not find any fault with this for-sale ad. It's very discouraging to not be able to criticize this ad; my day is ruined.

Great job, best of luck selling.

Bruce

p.s. Wait, I found something! The photos are so big I have to scroll back and forth to read the ad. Ha!

He'd take $11K for the 500E, but is selling it to get an E500 4matic wagon and needs the cash to swing the next car. Too bad he has too many cars/projects, yours sounds nice.
