87 300TDT --low miles
considering selling my 62k mile wagon. It is smoke silver original paint rated a 9 out of 10 with no body damage or rust. Interior is burgundy with 3rd seat but no parcel cover. Interior is a 9.5 out of 10. Car has 8 hole wheels with new Michelin tires. Glass is tinted all around. Miles are real as I have docs to prove. All features work as designed but A?C needs a charge each summer. Blows cold. This is a real pristine car needing nothing. Health forces me to consider reducing my number of cars.(6 W124 and W123 wagons)--8 corvettes 18 etc) I think value around 14,000.00 what do you guys think? No pics at this time --just interested in value

With no pictures its very hard to tell you if your price is correct. Your definition of a 9 out of 10 might not be the same as mine.

I agree pictures are important ---just a little about me I am a certified inspector for AAG and a past judge for NCRS and CCI---I am very critical and my 9 or 9.5 is not one of ignorance. I would furnish many pics of all the cars for sale if I proceed to sell. Just fishing for interest and range at this point

I know a little about Joel, pretty much knows these cars and I have a feeling that he's pretty straight with his description.
That being said, I don't know what the top is for a really nice '87 300TD. Seems that the market peaks on those occasionally and I've seen some bid up above $12k on ebay at times, if that's any indicator. $14k? If you find that buyer the right car is worth it, but you can't be in a hurry to get top-dollar for a pristine car, I had mine in Hemmings for months before I got (close to) what I wanted. Likely it won't bring that on this forum, but you never know. It is IMO collectible, great outside color, inside color a matter of taste (is it leather?) with an eclectic appeal and has the 3rd seat, rack crossbars would be a plus as would pet-net, a "hen's tooth" with that mileage documented, ... seems like it should bring $14k if you know where to advertise it and how to show it. Best of luck.

imo, there are not very many people anywhere who will pay 14K for an '87 wagon, regardless of condition. even if it had less mileage i think you'd be hard pressed. it may well be worth the money you're asking, but the current vehicle market will not support that price very well. car dealers are giving cars away these days, new, per-owned, whatever. the market is soft.
4 years ago i paid $9K canadian (~7.5KUS at the time) for a low mileage well maintained '87 300TD. it was high money then. i don't think too many people would have paid that for the car but i wanted an '87 TD and it was a very good one. the reason i mention my car and what i paid is that i am the kind of person who might actually pay that kind of money for an old car, but i can say that at basically $15K, there are so many vehicles that people can buy these days, the potential market for the car at that price point is extremely small, approaching non-existent.

my only expertise is as someone who surfs the internet for the last 9 years.
Over the last few years, I've seen 87 TDturbo's go for anywhere from $4k (beat to hell) to $10k for a showroom model- Your $14k seems a bit night. But the 3rd row seat, nice color (I am getting sick of seeing gold or white MB's) balance out the slow leak in the (R12 or R134?) A/C system. You didnt mention if its a -14 head or not - this may sway some people but not others. Only other W124 None of my estimates, will be as accurate as Ebay completed listings =) -John

For $14,000 I would hope that the car is so pristine that the instrument cluster light bulbs are new. |
