1985 500SL Grey Market
DOT certified
5.0 litre European engine U.S. Headlights Blue exterior, blue hardtop, blue interior 104,000 showing on broken odometer Engine runs well, very well, no smoke. The car will need the following to get it to decent running condition: 1) Front seals replaced in transmission and while its out I would go ahead and rebuild it. 2) Idle speed control motor 3) Brakes and tires 4) Adjust steering box 5) Front end bushings 6) Soft top will need to be replaced Car is a 5 out of 10. Interior is in fair condition, soft top will need to be replaced, body is straight. It needs some love and I have no garage in which to restore it and keep it. Mechanic just got it to where it will run and can be test driven so it has some new parts. Asking $3900.00 Local to Washington D.C. in North Central Maryland, not interested in shipping. My name is Rich. |

I still have it, it has not made it home from the shop yet. The only rust I see is a small bubble under the paint on the hood. The bubble is less than the size of a dime. The underside of the car is remarkabley rust free, even the mechanics suggest that the lack of rust is one of the reasons I should restore the car. I just don't have the inclination to do so anymore. It was my father's car but it is time to part with it. Funny....the car resided in Venice FL. for many years. My mom still has a place there.

The hood is made out of aluminum. If its the original it should not be rusting like that.

Yet there is a small bubble, or blister, in the paint as some may call it. Perhaps not rust related and certainly not the most serious issue that I have stated with respect to the car.

I sold my fine running 560SL with euro lights for less than $5000 several years back- when the market for SL's was better. Good luck selling your car. |

The rusting hood would be a big deal to me, since that means its probably been replaced after an accident and repaired poorly.

My kids were sad that the "toy car" had taken a fatal blow. I had done quite a bit of needed engine work so that it would run great until the body gave out. I sure do want another 107, but unless I win the lotto it most likely will not happen.

Buy mine. It will blow any 560sl into the weeds.

Bump!
Stock euro 500 m117= 240 hp Stock USA 560 m117= 227 hp... add euro headers + 30 hp = 250+. I've found four such sets in the yard here- two for the w126 chassis and two for the 107 chassis. While I'd like another 107, I'm certainly not buying one soon. Not all euro motors have the headers. I had a euro 500SEL and it was better motor than the USA 560, but if you fit the headers on the 560 I'd take that instead. Now if you have the 300 HP version we have a different beast altogether. I hope you can sell it- they are great cars. Last edited by MTUpower; 12-11-2009 at 07:55 PM. |

This is a an older pic of the car, it remains essentially as you see it but needs TLC.
