She's certainly no Squash though!! I can't wait for us to get him going again. It will surely increase my hankering to find a good NA OM617 {no T please}

Hmm. 1900 miles, 30hr drive time home.

I know on long dives in the 300cd I have to be doing 75-85 mph with gas/feed/dewatering stops to end up averaging 60-65 for the trip

How long would it really take in a 240?

Well...in a 240D, if it's missing the hood insulation...75-85mph starts to sound a little deafening...my one real long trip with my rust bucket was also when it was 90 degrees. And of course "it has A/C, it just doesn't work anymore."

I'll have to find a little more local one w/o rust. Even if I end up in Texas about 5 times a year!

That looks like a really nice car for the money, very similar to my '80 240d which is also a 4 speed.... Not my favorite color though. MB did offer some peculiar colors in that era. Mine is sort of an Army green which personally almost turned me off enough not to buy it. I do get a lot of compliments on it though.

1900 miles in a 240d would take some patience but I would think you would get home sometime on the 3rd day, depending on how many hours per day you want to put in. You could always put in some sight-seeing stops along the way and make it a very pleasant 4 day trip by staying off the interstates and stick to the US highways. The interstates are not much fun to travel on, and generally not very scenic either. US highways (not state highways) are usually very nice to drive, almost just as fast as Interstates, a lot less congested, a lot more scenic, and would make for a much more memorable trip... my $.02

Smile long drive vs $600

I bought one from a guy in texas
no rust no rust

$600 seemed a little excessive -

texas to baltimore

it arrived no problem - now if i could just find a few more horse power .......
