Unloading a car now that I live near the subway.
So you guys at peachparts helped me out this summer. A guy sold me his '98 E300TD that "wasn't starting" and the forums here helped me figure out that the fuel line had some congealed diesel in it and one of the O-Rings was shot, which I happily fixed. I needed the car for awhile, and enjoyed it.
So to answer the "most important" question from the selling your car easily post- I've moved to Boston, don't have a garage or anywhere to keep it, and decided I'll sell it and get a beater rather than park a nice car on the street. I have no reason to own a Mercedes at age 25, a volkswaggin' would do me just fine. So that's the why(dont want it hurt) and the where(boston, ma). On to the car- It is a '98 E300- emerald green with tan leather- with just under 225k on it. It's a champ and I've driven around having a blast the last few months. Seat heaters, rear window shade, headlight washers, etc. are part of the package its equipped with. Also includes all-weather floor mats and some other small bonuses. Positives: I've spent over $2000 on it fixing it up since August, (wheel bearings, lug nuts, K&N filter, other tangential stuff to pass inspection), and the guy before me spent $4500 on the engine trying to get it to start again- INCLUDING new glow plugs, which may be cheap but I know what a bastard it is to replace those from trying to get it started last summer(but he didn't replace the fuel lines... his mechanic took him for a ride). I have records for the work I've done to it, and can get you his records if necessary. Negatives: Aesthetic: The "Turbo Diesel" badge is gone on the back right, but it doesnt look like anything was ever there- I guess the guy before me didn't like repping diesel? The rims are peeling and there is mild scratching on the rear bumper. Other than that none really- shows some of the typical wear for a 12 year old car. The one thing I dont get is the rims peeling, I don't know how that even happens. Mechanical: The Check Engine light pops on if its below zero out, had the code read and the dealer said it was the engine shutoff solenoid- its just "sticking" as the engine warms up- it starts right up even when the light is on. Feel free to come check it out on a cold day if you dont believe me. Obviously, if it was a major issue I would have replaced it- only happens in the extreme cold. I'm no Mercedes genius, it just fell into my lap- so I don't know what usually goes wrong with these cars. Other than the Check Engine thing, I know of no other problems. A/C worked fine last time it was warm, heat is nice and toasty. Sunroof is really nice. In any case, its now for sale. I'm gonna start cleaning her up this weekend to go on eBay or Craigslist, but I figured I'd offer her to ya'll first since she wouldnt be running without you. I'm looking for offers $6500 and up due to the swath of recent part replacements. Pictures will be forthcoming this weekend- my camera is shot and I need to borrow one from a friend. Many thanks to you! Tom Pettit Last edited by tom.pettit; 02-18-2010 at 04:11 PM. |
