Thumbs up '83 300CD In Pomona , Ca.

O.K. , the Pick-N-Pull self service junkyard on the SW corner of East End and Mission has a used car seller who tries to sell off donated Charity cars then sells the junk or unsold ones to the P-N-P right there who may or may not try to sell it before dropping it into the rows for destruction...

This sales guy has a Champagne colored 1983 300CD with a cherry parchment interior ~ he says the engine shakes a lot and the brakes are bad , it's been re-painted once , medium quality paint job , still looks better than 85 % of the Coupes I find .

Right now it has a clear Ca. title but if it goes into the yard it'll get a salvage title , seems a shame for such a nice car . this car is NOT Junk ! .

U-Pick U Save

1560 E. Mission Blvd.

PO-mona

91766 .

Please go see it Wednesday but DO NOT waste time telephoning ! they don't want to be bothered by DieselHeads telling them how much more we know than they do , you'll give them $500.00 then run it for free on french fry oil forever etc. , etc. , if you're seriously interested , go BUY the damned thing , I would if I could .

I was unable to get them to give me a price but they have lots of decent cars & trucks for $2,000 or so , including a Miata Rag Top for $1,500 so how much could they possibly want ? .

If I but had a place to stash it , I'd be all over it as the cosmetics are quite good so it's be a snap to re-sell after repairing whatever it needs . my loss , your gain .

BTW : this yard seems to be W-126 HEAVEN , lots and lots of Police Impounds , really nice, clean ones .

Post Yes And No....

Few native born Californians have any common sense so these dontated (read : FREE) cars are supposed to be sold AS-Is , WHERE-IS but they usualy want more than the going retail rate for a similar car in good condtion... ALL of the donated cars have issues of one sort or another . not bad , just let's be realistic please .

I see quite a few being crushed for scrap as the attiude seems to be : if I (the salesman) can't make BIG BUCKS ` screw you .

So , we'll see how it goes . I'd love to buy it but I can't , I've gotta keep on the Wagon Trail ya know..

I'll swap my nice old 1980 NA 300CD straight across for a TD if I like it... no B.S. ~ I'm over $5K into it and I just want out .

I don't know about that. My '83 was donated at one time and the only "issues" it had on purchase were a non-working AC, a crack in the windshield, and possibly one bad glow plug. For what I paid and considering the overall condition of the car, I consider that issue free.

Yes. I worked for a Carson City location of a Sacremento based junk yard chain. We usually asked way too much for builders (whole cars for sale). My logic was that we would be fine selling them for low prices, since we'd just buy most of them back in 6-12 months at $50-70 each.

I didn't run the place, and they did a lot of things I thought were stupid. I'm glad I don't work there anymore.

The thing that sucks, is these cars don`t stay in PNP for long. the one yard in San Jose moves them out in 3 to 4 weeks. so you have to be quick.

I have 4 PNP with in 50 miles. so I have a full time job staying on top of it all .
some have almost perfect interior, no rust. some low miles.
I pulled an engine out of a 84 that was rear ended with 97,000K. went back for more parts, and was gone .

There's a 300CD in Bakersfield, if anyone's interested I can get what few details were available. It was posted on the bulletin board at the local parts store. It look pretty clean from the single b&w photo. Price was only OBO.
