feeler for interest - trade a w123 for 126 (or two)
I bought my w126 about 2 years ago with a decent engine, trans, and daily drove it since. About 6 months ago I picked up a rust-free TX w126 with the intent to swap in the OM617, and all the new parts I threw on it since the brown one was rusting out but driving well. Anyways, I have come to the realization that I will be living in Philly for quite a while and the 300SD is simply too big for my uses (I now drive the 300E daily since picking it up a month ago). I do still drive it around, but for the most part I need a smaller diesel if I want to have one.
So here's what I've got - 2 w126s pictured in my sig, one driven regularly, the other sitting in CT waiting for the other's engine. The daily driver (brown) is rusty and I wouldn't really want to DD it much longer, however the engine and trans are in great shape. Brakes were replaced on all four corners (rotors, calipers, pads, lines), new radiator and 4 brand new tires. I'm looking to trade EITHER: these TWO cars for ONE well-running w123 in their current state plus tons of extra parts (extras could get quite a bit of money, like CCU, console parts, misc interior parts), or I can put the OM617 and trans from the rusty one into the rust-free one and trade after that (ETA around August-September for that completion). I was planning on swapping the engine and then selling the rust-free SD but would rather just trade it for a smaller diesel since I need to feed the diesel bug. Please let me know if anyone is interested in either of these two scenarios. I'd be interested in w123 gassers too, but prefer a diesel.

hm
i dont have anything to trade however might you be interested in someone purchasing the non-rusty SD sans motor? You take that money, sell the other SD and probably pick up a nice 123? I just happen to know someone looking for a rust-free non-motored 126...

That would be an option but honestly I wouldn't want to sell the brown car to someone who is driving it daily. It is simply rusting out and will soon be unsafe (others may argue that its still okay?) and as a seller, I don't really think it would be a moral/decent thing to do. The engine and trans would be great for a swap but if I were to get rid of the white rust-free car, it would be difficult to justify doing much of anything with the brown one except get another swap candidate or junking it. Another thing I would consider would be to trade the rust-free w126 for a w123 without its engine/trans.

Just some more info for the heck of it:
Brown car has about 189k on it...odometer stopped working at 187.5. - compression hasn't been checked but there is blowby. I never had a problem starting it during the coldest CT days except for one instance where my battery crapped out (I replaced it the next day with a new one) - Replaced tranny fluid/filter/B2 piston at 181k - all fuel lines under hood replaced, new filters all around - could probably use new injectors at some point, but still runs well...just smokes a bit, can only see it in headlights at night. - interior is in OK shape, seat switches are broken but work 100%, drivers side door handle is broken but works. Everything works, its just a bit ugly. White car: - No rust anywhere - blue MB tex interior complete w/extras minus passenger seat (can find out of w123), somewhat disassembled at the moment - Was driven for a bit up from Texas until the PO parked it and took engine out in '07. It does look like I'll be combining the two cars and selling/trading afterwards since there hasn't been too much interest in this thread. I was just kind of hoping maybe someone wanted an easy swap project.

I too am in the same boat as you are..kind of
I have the Green SD (265k) which has a very young drive train (90k or so on the motor) and runs perfectly. However its rusting to pieces, just discovered the back window needs done and the driver side rear wheel well has a hole in it. I am looking for a candidate to toss that drivetrain into. I haven't had much luck. Your white car would probably be a good candidate. Since your looking for a w123, I wonder if you'd have any luck finding a 300D or 240D with bum motor and throwing your good 617 into it? They used the same motors. Just out of curiosity how much would you want for both cars?

Hey!
That low mileage engine and transmission would fit very well into this car -- rust free w116 (mine for sale in this same section); needs a driver door and one piece of trim; dash has cracks, repainted silver is decent, black MB tex in excellent condition except horse hair needs to be replaced with foam padding.

I was thinking $2000 for both, I have over double that in parts/purchase prices. I realize I'm not gonna make a profit but I think its reasonable. For post-swap rust-free MB, I will probably be asking just under $3k and expect in between 2500-3000. If a trade arises I'd be willing to throw in cash (if necessary) depending on the condition of the other car.
Heck, there's probably at least $500 in spare parts with these cars. Spare CCU, spare cluster, interior bits, vacuum pods, blower motor, set of 5 Bundts in good shape, etc. etc. On your rear window leaking...I just waited until it was extremely dry out, hit the window seal with a heat gun to evaporate any more moisture, then sealed with a bead of RTV, smeared/smoothed with my thumb and hasn't leaked since, and no sign of moisture anywhere under it. A spare rear window seal (fresh in box) would be included with the w126 sale here.
