Real nice - take a picture of the car on your computer with a phone camera. At least there was a lot of detail about the car in his print

i feel like anyone who parrots the million miles or 40mpg crap needs to be flagged. can't stand when people try to act like their beater is a showroom quality car with better economy than a brand new prius

Surprised he didn't say it had bullet-proof windows. See that all the time with CL W140's.

Yea, Like here's a picture of a car like my car, but, like, I can't get a picture of my car, 'cause, like, it's in the shop and I got no bank to pay the bill.

Here's how I read the add:

I'm a car flipper, and I've got this car with intergalactic miles on it, and something serious enough to disable the car required repair. I cannot afford to pay the repair bill, let alone address the dozens of other problems with the car. Of course I'll never willingly disclose a single one of them. I got this car on the cheap and was hoping to flip it without spending any money. Now I'm buried alive in this car, and am scared ****less something else will break before I can unload this gobbler. I'm really hoping that you're stupid enough, or ignorant, to think that you could actually drive this car and impress your friends, without having to maintain it or fix all the problems this one has. Still reading? Call me. Lets see how little it takes to put you behind the wheel!

I LOVED the pic

I have to ask though, I see SELs go for cheap all the time. What is so costly with owning that model? Seems like the regular 300Es get more money in the market?
I also love ads where the seller tells you what to do. Like "You will buy this car." and "don't jerk me around, call only, no emails" (while advertising on CL, with minimum info about the actual car) or the "story teller" ads, you know "Just having my third kid, that is why I had this car for 2 years but never had the title in my name and yadda yadda..."

It's an order of magnitude more complex than the W126.

Couple that with a weak front end, lots of power assists no don't even know you need, and comparatively poor support from the aftermarket and you will understand why W124s are more highly valued...

No emails is my favorite. I don't see how anyone using the internet to sell something has the nerve to say "no emails". Whats the concern? scammers? You have to be smart enough to know that someone inquiring about your car that lives in another country is a scam.

A close second are the people who put up an ad then don't touch a computer again for a month

And then there are the "no low ballers".. lol So who actually pays what someone is asking for a car? Of course my initial offer is going to be low... it is my hope you bite.

Currently I am watching a diesel 4 door bronco. Started at $9000 FIRM, no low ball, ultra rare conversion, only needs.... 5 or 6 things fixed, over $25k invested
After a couple months it's at $6000 must sell, "don't call and offer me $2000"..

I am waiting till the $3000 mark.

Well, if he's sold a few cars on Craigslist he knows emails are mostly a waste of time.

The top 3:

Will you take (some ridiculous amount) for it?

Can you finance me? (they have 5 dollars to put down and want a 0 interest loan for 5 years on the $2000 car)

Is the car still for sale, or some basic elemental question that's answered in the ad. (Spammers collecting email addresses)

W140's are absolutely amazing when properly sorted to drive, one of the best driving Mercedes this side of the Maybach and new S class.

Having said that ownership is not for the faint of checkbook. Its the kind of car that should be owned by someone who can afford a surprise $2k repair now and than.

S320's are not to much more complicated than the W126, but the higher end models are. Mercedes spent a billion dollars designing the W140 in the late 80's and its an engineering marvel, but like all such things it has some very, very expensive parts compared to the W126.

I'd love an 96 and on S320 if I didn't have to fear the $4000 evaporator failure. Maybe if one pops up with that already done...
