Nice CD on Ebay.....but

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Mercedes-300CD-turbo-diesel-coupe-2nd-owner-CA-/260739373981?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3cb5471b9d#ht_17341wt_1164

This car can't be an original CA car, can it? Look at the pic of the engine.....

It looks like it could be a Cali car it whole life.. ask to see the original owners manual/service book it will show where it was sold and serviced. It's been on ebay for months, pricey for the miles!

I don't really see how a Fed W123 could be original Cali car......
Those seats almost look like they've had interior paint applied. Maybe when they bought those new carpets......

Its an '83, so they would look the same under the hood. '85 have the weirdo air cleaners in the cali version.

I would think in 1983 if it were sold new in California it would have blue plates. This one seems to have the next generation? I'm sure a California person will chime in.

I bought my 1985 300D (CA) from its original owner, it still had the blue plates so yes, this car should as well, as it is two years older.

It looks pretty nice to me. What makes you think the seats have been painted?

I probably would not pay 13 for it but someone probably will.

speaking of cleanest engine compartment.... That always scares me when I'm looking at a used car. Obviously steam cleaned. Looks great but hides all the leaks etc.

Really a nice looking car. I hope my 85 CD redo turns out half as nice.

It looks nice; tach is broken. Short of that, the body panels and hood/trunk/doors all look straight; paint looks very good; interior looks good and original; underhood looks very cleaned. I would only pay over $10k for a w123 diesel if it was a wagon, but to each his own. As advised by seller, it should be sold to someone who can go over it with their own eyes. Good advice. Always.

The car could have either blue plates or the reflective plates the car has (reflective plates started issue in 1982, and 1983 was last year for Blue/gold plates), but the original owner could have had personalized plates and when they sold the car had the replaced with the reflective version.

1982 was the last year blue plates were issued, at least according to the CA DMV. Then again, what do they know?

When I moved to CA in 88, I was able to specify blue plates or the white plates. The blue plate set was a vanity plate, so maybe that had something to do with it. I've still got the plate....

sounds like maybe only the '85 had the trap oxidizer.

I would pay $10k for it.....with those miles you know there will be some work to do, no matter how nice it looks in the pics.

1985 was the first year that required the trap oxidizer in CA. It very well could have been bought elsewhere and brought in shortly thereafter.

JimB would be able to decipher this one.

Really?

Eleventy-billion reasons the car wouldn't have blue/yellow plates. Besides those plates are correct for that year.

Here's the issue I have:

"This car has always been maintained to the highest standards and it shows "

Yeah...I don't think so! Anyone else notice the non-approved greeeeeeen coolant? Hmmmmmm, wonder how long that's been the case? At least seller's polite enough to issue this: "and do all your ''due diligence" BEFORE placing a bid"

Looks really nice, but buyer beware!
