Well my current 300D has been totaled, and I am now in the search for a new car. I will being racking up the miles in the next few years so MPG's are important. So before I go completely honda, I thought I would see what was out there for a direct replacement of what I have.

Heres some of what I want in the car:

less than 210,000miles
Must have maintnance records
Must need nothing mechanical to be driven 75+ miles per day
Would prefer to either have replaced timming chain or records of minimal stretch.
No vacuum problems at all
**really prefer that the pressure activated wastegate upgrade be done already**

What i am willing to spend completely depends on the car. I do not want any type of projects.

Someone on here has a black on black 95 E300 for sale. You may want to check into that.

I know I'm slightly outside of your paramaters, but my W124 can be seen here, and is relatively well known by a good number of people on this site.

It's not the end of the world to have a 14 head, trust me. Some are bad, most are good. I still think you need an SDL for that up coming commute. Don't laugh, but an '85 SD will get about the same MPG's as an SDL. A properly sorted om617 is DEAD reliable.

My current issue is my parents pushing a 5speed honda civic, and I have to compete with the fuel economy of 35+mpg. I would really like an 300sdl and if one pops up I may consider it, but I have to keep in mind that it will probly never go much past 32mpg, where as the om602 is more likely to yield 34mpg. (this comute is going to be 50-75mi per day on straight level 55mph roads)

Its not so much being afraid of the #14 head, but coupled with the lower fuel economy, the 87 300d is just less appealing. It would have the slight risk of head issues along with lower fuel economy.
However I still do like your 5speed 87

The only defense your going to have against a honda civic is crash survivability. Find some pic's online of crashed civics and w124/w126's, show them to your parents.

I use to have an '85 VW golf, it was my first diesel. It got 45 mpg all day everyday... it was too small for me and I didn't like to think about what would happen in a crash. Personal safety is a factor, along with mpg's.

They are already starting to hint about saftey (mom asked me about an big equinox today) So I think I may be able to win here.

So at this point im looking for:

90-94 w124 300d
Possibly 1995 w124 E300
87 w124 300d no #14 head (unless its ashedd's 5speed)
Possibly 300sdl

Do you still have your SD? Can't you drive that till you find something?

Needs a starter which I have, but when I started looking underneath it was scary rough. Holes everywhere, very thin metal, dry/cracked rubber everything. So it it currently sitting on the trailer waiting to go to the scrap yard. Since im 16 I can't drive the rental impala we got, so I think im going to drive our n/a 7.3 ford for a few days.

I think I would put that starter on there and drive the hell out of it. It would do better than the Ford in the mpg department.

If I see something of interest, I will let you know.
