1981 Mercedes-Benz 240D, 4-Speed manual, bad engine
A 1981 Mercedes-Benz 240 D, with a 4-Speed manual transmission, and a bad engine. Girlfriend drove it with low oil and the engine developed a tapping toward the front. I thought it was the camshaft as the first cam lobe and rocker was badly worn, so I replaced the camshaft & all rocker arms with new parts in hopes that it would fix the knocking. Unfortunately, it did not. It'll start and idle fine, but give it any fuel and it has a horrible knocking. The car can still be driven under it's own power, but it should be towed after purchase. I can arrange towing at no cost within 100 miles. We can start it up so you can hear it run & shift through the gears, however, due to the damaged engine, I simply cannot allow a full test drive.
Some good news: Transmission is still in great condition. Slave and master cylinder both replaced about a year ago. Clutch still strong All 4 tires have less than 10,000 miles on them New battery in July of 2009 $1000 OBO flexible on the price, just make an offer. Car is located in Austin, TX
