FS: 1997 E300D 5 speed manual

Hello,

Decided to put my '97 E300 up for sale. First off, I consider this a drivable project. Hard work is done, but lots of small (and medium) things need attention. Car is driven daily and can be driven anywhere reliably.

258K miles, runs fine. Original automatic went south, so installed a 5 speed set up from a 1985 190D 2.2. Works well, but doesn't have a dual-mass flywheel so assume it is not as smooth as a factory 210 stick shift. The conversion is finished for the most part, the rest of the car is what needs attention. Was pretty used up when I bought it.

What needs help (go get a cup of coffee!).

P/S pump not working. Drives fine at speed, but tough in a parking lot.

A/C needs hoses at compressor. System works, but will leak freon fast.

Power mirrors and tilt steering not working. Wiring? Switches good.

Car had sat for a while when I purchased. Had to clean out fuel strainer. Did while in car and some diesel spilled into the frame rails. Been trying to clean, but pretty persistent fuel smell in car.

Suspension clunks on bumps. Bushings look ok, doesn't eat tires. Shocks?

Center support bearing. Well, just the support, bearing is fine.

Cruise and back-up lights not working due to conversion. Can with some creativity.

Probably other little things I'm forgetting......

Is there anything good? Well, looks decent. White with tan interior. Has some dings and touched up (poorly) key marks on the doors. Ripple in the rear bumper cover. Interior is fair. No big rips, but driver's seat is flat. Lots of cracks in the dash. Kind of dingy all around. Wood, however, is beautiful.

Good Michelin tires and E420 rims. All windows and moonroof work. Sony CD with iPod controls.

Anyway, don't need to sell, but if someone gives me $2900 firm they can drive it home. Located in the Raleigh, NC area. PM if interested or for more info. See my gallery pics for basic shot of car. It is the white car in the "1997 E300D" folder. Will get more pics when not raining!

Klaus

That is an interesting vehicle. How is the fuel economy with the 5 speed?

Not that much different from the auto, really. Around 30. Wish I could say "40-50 mpg" like they list on ebay but being realistic!

Mark, thanks for the nod of approval. How is the SD coming along??

Going back with the great running 300D 617. Need to rebuild the front end and throw a fresh coat of astral silver on her and she'll be rolling. Thanks for asking!
