Not always but people don't kid. Anyone that calls you an a** hole but is just kidding means it - the first part, not the kidding part.

When I was shopping for the diesel coach I have now, a guy from McAlester, OK. that owned both my brand and a Prevost had what I thought I wanted, until I heard more about it. He said he only took "one trip in it." I thought - tell me more.....turned out he had done a tour of ALL Communist countries in South America in the coach. He had put only 6K miles on it in 6-months. It had been run on back roads for a lot of the trip. I couldn't get off the phone fast enough..... |

damn I should have done a carfax and rolled back the odometer... Am I the only one that doesn't care about the miles?? Seriously, my last wagon had approx 600k on it. then a drunk girl totalled it... it ran like new before that. #17. |

600k miles (eh)?
Well I don't know one way or another. BUT you would have a hard time making my local indy Benz shop believe it.
They would probably not even put your current wagon, with 320, on the hoist before telling a customer not to buy it. Something must be agreeing with those engines in the air out there in Cali. Around here, based on what he tells me, no one is seeing much more than 250k out of one. I'm not trying to start a war on this, I wanted a w124 300td and he steered me away. If this is some prejudice he's acquired, this will be very interesting....

Ok ok! I fixed the magazine holders, side pillar cover and vacuumed the floor boards y'all. Happy now? I even found a perfect matching tire to replace the worn one and had the alignment checked.
now, no more crying please. |

250k miles on a 603? Just broken in! I've had five of them apart at that mileage, and the honing marks are still in the bores at 250,000 miles.
If the head doesn't cause a problem (IMO maintenance & use are large factors there) and the vacuum pump is replaced every quarter-million miles, they are every bit as durable as the 61x engines, possibly moreso. Your indy is a wanker, knows nothing of 603s.

I'd look long and hard for another indy then. He's steered you Wrong. Dead wrong. I love my TD. and as it sits, 307, 195 miles Strong. My shop does not have a problem with them. Or any merc...

Carfax might help substantiate your miles and give your car some outside credibility. Where is the Carfax, anyway? Rolling back the odometer won't help you sell a car when the tampering is discovered. High miles cars rarely pull the big dollars. Low miles cars almost always do. Buyers do care about miles. 100K is the point where the easy big dollars for almost anything falls way off. - and yes even diesels.
Buddy of mine sold his Mom's 11 year old E300 with 87K miles on it. One guy da#n near broke his neck to get it for full retail inside of 24 hours. My buddy believes he left maybe another easy grand on the table by agreeing to selling it too quickly. Little did the guy know the car had had zip in needed parts replacements done. Same car with 125K miles on it, and you can't get a buyer to bid anywhere near retail on it - even with $5K of parts replacement/procedures done to it, unlike the 87K miled MB. Yes, high miles do kill high dollar sales. |
