But, with only 100K on the clock and nearly perfect paint............I just couldn't resist it.

When I get the 2.88 and first gear start, it's going to be fantastic.
I love the color combo. It makes it an instant classic, and the M103 is such a smooth engine.

The color is growing on me. It looks great in the sunlight............a bit blah in the evening.

The smoothness of this engine is striking...........even when compared to the OM603..........there is no comparison.

If I can get its fuel economy up to 25 on the highway, I'll be thrilled.

I was able to get 26 mpg on the highway in my 3.2 liter M104. What is the M103 supposed to get on the highway in the W126 chassis?

With my 300SE, I seemed to get 20mpg no matter what I did city or highway-wise.

I almost bought this car myself, Brian. Glad a forum member got ahold of it.

It turns so fast with the 3.46 that I'd be very surprised to do better than 21 or so.

But, I have plans.............

My favorite '86 SDL is going to have to go. I'm very fond of it but I don't want to put the money into new paint. It's now got some clearcoat peel that needs attention.

I'm going to do front brakes and delivery valve seals in the next couple of weeks and then it'll be ready to go.

It has just under 200K and should probably sell for $3.5K or so. It's a very good vehicle that needs a few minor items.

The turbine smooth novelty wore off for me when the 95 S420 did better on the highway cruising between Northern and Southern California, even with the S420 tooling along 10-15 mph faster. Hard to believe it's the same engine in the 300E.

If you manage to keep it at around 60mph, (3k rpm) You will be able to squeeze about 23mpg.

While driving it to you, I was usually between 70-80mph, and I got about 21mpg. (a/c on as well)

A 2.88 diff would make a world of difference on that car.

Why bother mucking about with the transmission and gear starts etc? Doesn't the kick down work?
