1983 300D Biodiesel For Sale
This 83’ Mercedes 300D biodiesel has been an 80 mile a day commuter for years. Mechanically very sound and runs good. Slid on an icy winter road and hit an embankment at 20 mph doing damage to both front fenders, maybe the hood, and slightly tweaked front frame forks. During this mishap the car also slide around 360 on the ice and did slight damage to right rear quarter.
I originally bought the car shortly after the accident for my daughter and she didn’t like it…thought it looked like an old man car. I put $1,800 above what I paid for it into fenders, hood, grill, core support, headlight door, tail light and all the parts necessary to do the repairs, which were bought in this forum. I had a professional body shop fix rear right quarter. Have a quote of $800 to straighten front frame forks. The only paint needed is the front fenders, the right rear quarter and maybe the hood. The rest of the paint on the car is in great shape and can be buffed out to look new. Has no other dents, scratches, or rust. Interior is brown MB-Tex with small tear in drivers rear seat bottom and back. Has good clean Oregon title. NOT a salvage title! All repair parts, ie, fenders, hood, grill, core support, headlight door, tail light, etc., come with car. Car is located 75 miles southwest of Portland Oregon. Buyer must arrange pick up and delivery. Asking $2,000. Contact me if you have any questions at 541 487-4246 or jerry.hunt@blackhorsearsenal.com. Last edited by MB300se65; 06-23-2011 at 07:32 PM. |

I haven’t had a single response on this car! Am I priced too high? I’m all ears if I am. Around here these sell for around $3,000 or more. I put a price on it where if someone spent $800 - $1,000 to straighten the front forks, reassemble and paint the front-end sheet metal, that comes with the car, they’d be in it about right. But I’m open to offers. I’ve attached a couple more pictures before the accident. This is a beautiful car!

A few observations:
1. The members of this board seem to be generally heavily biased against use of alternative fuels, mostly WVO but I think some people here don't make a distinction between a car run on bio and one run on old grease. 2. People don't put offers in on old cars with body damage. I got my current 300d for a song on eBay, because of that. It would have been a $6k car if pristine, needing a centerlink, door and fender I got it at $1,700. 3. Which is to say: Any car with a major problem (body damage, needing transmission as examples) doesn't sell for the normal retail minus the repair cost. Typically a car with such a problem sells somewhere between salvage value and half the usual price, depending on the issue.

Mac,
I believe you’re right! I’ve never tried to sell anything in the forum, just buy a ton of parts for half a dozen Mercedes I’ve owned or still do. It's a great running car and as buried as I am in it I may just finish and keep it, or try and sell it after being finished. It’s on its 2nd offering on eBay and I only had one bid of $500 the 1st auction and haven’t seen any bids in this current one. I just sold this one 1965 Mercedes 250se Convertible for sale and have another for sale at 1958 Mercedes Benz 220S Ponton, which is also listed on eBay. There is some good stiff competition on the Ponton both here and eBay. The forum member "daw_two" listed a very similar car the day before I did, which probably isn’t in the best interests of either of us. So far I’ve had no interest here, maybe I will on eBay. Thanks for the input! mb300se65 |

To be brutally honest, that looks like a $500 car. Wrecked on both ends and a ragged out interior are not good selling points.

Ouch...I hate brutal honesty! Looks like this ones going to be a keeper for a while until I can get the front forks straightened, the fenders back on, do some paint work and fix the tear in the drivers seat bottom.
Other than that seat the interior is immaculate, as is the paint other than the front fenders, and rear quarter which is ready for final paint. Up until a couple weeks ago I had 18 cars and trucks. I'm down to 16 now and they all gotta go! |
