Very Nice 1975 450 SEL
I bought this car from a prominent MB enthusiast who owns a business restoring the wood for the cars we all love so much. Since purchasing it, I've taken a new job that has me constantly on the road and all this car does is sit in a garage. It's straight (unusual for a 116) and well known by members of this forum. I've taken great care of it, including most recently replacing the AC compressor with a new A6 and keeping it R12, so it blows cold even a year later. The bundts were powder coated. The engine was rebuilt about 10 years ago, bottom and top. From what I recall, the transmission was rebuilt at the same time. From what I was told, he had pistons sitting on the shelf for the engine, so while the trans. was out, he decided to go ahead and rebuild it.
The [real] leather hides were all replaced in the 80's. With one small exception, there is no rust. I've been around the car in every corner with a magnet, and you're welcome to check it as well. Window gaskets have been replaced, and you can tell. This car has been meticulously maintained over its life. In fact, I even have the 4" binder with all records and receipts for the car. The PO completely converted it to euro with lights (front and back), bumpers (front and back), and the rare headlight wipers that really make the 116 sexy. In addition to those mods, it has the fire extinguisher, trunk triangles, and rear headrests. Because his business is restoring MB wood, he professionally refinished all the wood in the car and veneered it in burl about 10 years ago. At the time, the dash was replaced and still has NO cracks in it. I have a replacement euro bumper to go on the back. I just haven't mounted it yet (there is minor rust bubbling on the current bumper). It has all the appointments of a pristine euro 6.9 but without the engine and troublesome suspension. Here's a link to the Craigslist ad for it. If you're seriously interested, give me a call at 214.600.1878 and I'd love to talk to you about the car. The pictures really don't do the car justice. I've gone BMW, and am already looking to get rid of the 330i. It's been a great car, but I think I want to get a cheaper car to putz around Dallas in. Then, I can always find a 108 or 111 sedan as my collector car to replace this 116.
Best Regards, David

I'm open to trades for the 116. I'm looking for either a w108 or w111 sedan.

SIGH
I wish. Only if I bought a car like this, my 300d and td would probably feel like oxcarts in comparison.
The w116 is the only car I like in any shade of brown. The tobacco colour combo rawks on that car.

Are those pinstripes painted on or are they decals?

Very interested in how it runs; what kind of power it has. As you know the '75-'76 models had that funky emission hardware on it.

The "funky emission hardware" is long gone, like gone in the early 80's gone. It runs great, especially considering the engine was rebuilt (top and bottom) as well as all the injectors replaced. Feel free to look up how much each injector costs for the car...
Thanks, David
