1984 300D, and a load of parts.

I recently acquired this car from a friend, but alas too many vehicles in the stable and we cant keep it.

1984 300d, 250,000 miles on drive train, about 280,000 on the chassis. The friend who owned this was an enthusiast of these cars, this was his third, and he is a fanatic about maintenance. He acquired the rolling chassis with no drive train out of southern Illinois, and swapped in a drivetrain he already had and knew the history on as he had been doing the maintenance on it for quite some time. All the periodic maintenance had been done regularly so this drive train is a poster child for how long they can run when the fluids/filters changes and valve adjustments are done on schedule.

Here are the "bad" things about this car.
  • AC compressor was bad at the time of the swap, so it was eliminated.
  • He also opted to not bugger with the cruise control as it was not working, but later working parts were rounded up and are available.
  • Seat foam in drivers needed replaced, and has the "pool noodle mod" which I understand is a common cheap fix. Seems comfy to me.
  • The dodgy vacuum operated heat vent controls were bypassed with a manual system. A vacuum control unit is available if you really need "original" over "works better".
  • There was a hole in the drivers side rear seat foot well, a patch panel was welded in from below, and resin glass poured in on top to fill it and make it level. That was and still is the only rot the car had.
  • Rear windows do not roll down. Well sometimes, when the stars align, seems like an issue with a switch.
  • There are a few paint chips and minor dings, but no major dents.
Good stuff.
  • Runs EXCELLENT, like I said, maintained by a fanatic. Gets 27-28 mpg consistently.
  • The sun roof DOES NOT LEAK. I seem to be asked about this a lot, and I am under the impression it was a semi common problem that led to rot in specific places. This one does not have those issues.
  • Overall with the exception of the floor panel that has been repaired rather well the car is very solid and clean for it's age.
  • Interior is nice.
  • Steering and suspension are tight, car drives very nice.
  • Good tires.
To go with the car are extra fuel filters, a wheel bearing, brake caliper, and extra wheels for snow tires for the winter. I also have a butt load of parts to sell separately, but may have a deal pending with someone who wants all of it, however nothing is set in stone yet. Here is a partial list of what I have:
  • transmission, mileage uncertain, about 260,000 I think, and was working fine
  • fuel tank with sending unit, looks like it was just taken out of the box at the factory.
  • Radiator, good condition
  • Oil cooler, excellent condition
  • steering column
  • more wheels
  • set of tail light assemblies with trim, very good condition
  • rubber bumper trim
  • new in package valve cover gaskets (I think)
  • all sorts of stuff I cant identify, see photo album.
The car is located in Burton, Ohio, 44021 zip.
I can be reached at 44O-3I3-IO69
