Just curious. What is gained by the diff swap?

The 85 is supposed to be shorter. I forget the ratios but a fraction less engine speed for a given road speed. It turns over at 3000 at 80mph instead of 3,300....

2.88 in the '85 diff, versus probably a 3.07.
It will make a non-85 car slower off the line (since it doesn't have the '85 tranny with taller 1st) but it will have lower RPMs on the highway.
