I just want to say that I am not offended by the AC remark. Being a Fl car though I had to ask.

I am pretty familiar with Joe's somewhat quirky personality. I don't at all see him as underhanded just at the moment fed up with the car and perhaps his family and so forth.

It looks like a pretty decent car to me and the only thing holding me back at the moment is wondering what the heck my wife would think of me buying yet another old benz with major issues and the distance away. It is as a practical matter a three day drive to Davenport Fl and it appears I will have to tow it home.

I am still thinking about it though. I have a really excellent rebuilt motor in my shaggy 82 300cd with a stick tranny behind it and this would make the perfect recipient of the motor. The issue of a rust hole in the floor also gives some pause though since if there is one there may be others Joe has not noticed.

you should totally buy it. I've got tons of parts to toss in with it.

I spent a fair amount of time under the car while doing the transmission and suspension and I did not notice any rot or rust on the unibody frame rails. It's just the spots I mentioned. The sunroof works and it has a first aid kit too!

Message me about the car. We can work something out

I'm thinking somebody in Atlanta needs this car as a parts/donor/spare for his dad's 240D. What to do with my dad's 240D?

Well, did Tom (TWalgamuth) go down the rabbit hole?

Joe . . . for what it's worth . . . you're welcome to put it in my back yard for the meantime, if you just need a place to store it out of your sight til the new owner comes to claim it.

Next wednesday I will be picking up Pancakes.

On the way south I will be delivering the black euro interior and some other parts in the Chatanooga area.

In between I will be visiting my son in the Pensacola area....and seeing the three live wire grandsons!

South of Chattanooga is a sleepy little town of Fort Payne, Alabama. Located on hwy 59 just 45 miles south of Chattanooga, and I suspect on your route to/from Pensacola. Feel free to drop me a line or such as you pass thru... If around lunch time, I'd fancy a bit 'o company for a bite. Might e'en find a mug of suds?

If you have time before you leave the Tampa area with Pankakes, I might be able to drive over and meet ya for some coffee and to Oooh and Aaaah over each other's acquisition. You staying overnight when you hit town? Or just gonna hook up and drive off? PM me and lemme know your plans or if you'll be needing anything down this way.

besides the high miles could you be more specific as to why you feel a new engine is in order (if there's an actual reason and your not just trying to appease whiner's that will ***** if something breaks on a 300k motor) does it have low compression test numbers? excessive blow by? low oil pressure? i am trying to locate a decent 200, 220, or 240 D for my father, and this so far seems like a nice candidate.

I feel as if a new engine is in order because the current engine is tired and it needs more work than what a nice lower mile engine would need.

This thread is now closed. The car is going to a new home.
