1995 E320 wagon for sale, anyone see this?

I watched this on ebay, it didn't sell. Wondering what everyones thoughts were?

Mercedes-Benz : E-Class Mercedes-Benz : E-Class - eBay (item 320795231078 end time Nov-22-11 16:14:45 PST)

I have made contact with the seller. He does not have all documentation and he is slightly mistaken on a few things, such as: He posted he was the second owner, but documentation shows the car has gone to auction twice before him. He say's that the head gasket on this model does not show seapage untill 300k mi. I think I got a record 180K on my current 95 wagon before doing my head gasket. He thinks the wiring harness is new. Tranny seems fine he says. I'm thinking the car might be worth $6000. Hard to argue that a head gasket is going to go soon, but isn't it unavoidable?

Thanks

X2.. Shady dealer stuff. I've had head gaskets fail at 50k, 90k, 110k, and 155k.

I sold my 95 E320 wagon with 98000 miles with a documented head gasket, wiring harness change, and a rebuilt transmission for the same money.

@ TylerH860

I saw your wagon for sale and was thinking of that....

I agree, sounds like shady stuff. Perhaps I should rephrase my thread/question to: has anyone had a 95, m103 that did not need a head gasket job? At least before 180k?

In my mind, that is a $2000 job that is a must around that mileage.

Its possible, but very unlikely.

2k is on the high side for that job, though. I'd say $1200-1500 would be the norm at a competent and reasonable independent mechanic. David, a forum member here, at Omega Auto Service here in Wichita could probably get you out for under a grand.

Not an expert by any means but I think I drive the nicest W124 wagon on the planet and I don't think I could get $4K for it...

We, my friend, are in a club that is losing membership fast. I'll come up to 200K this year and although I toy with getting rid of it for a project diesel I always come back to "why?". They are kind of boring, never having to work on them aren't they?

My 95 is almost at 230,000 right now. I love this car and am seriously contemplating having another one for my next car. My plan is to run my current wagon into the ground. I had the headgasket done at 180,000 and the transmission replaced at 190,000 (talk about two expensive fixes at once). The car has its issues such as: no AC, broken antenna mast, blown speakers, drivers window regulator just broke, and not much heat on the feet. I have some rust on the one fender that I had replaced after having an accident. I can handle these issues because the car rides like a dream and it has only left me stranded once in the nine years I have owned it, and that was when the rear axle broke.

I am considering either another 95 wagon, or jumping up to a 2004 4matic. Not sure how good that year is though. I think it was the first year of that model.

By the way, anyone ever replace a window regulator? Is it a pain in the ass? Does the door go back together nicely or does it end up a mess?

I live in the seacoast region of New Hampshire and got three quotes and $2000 was the cheapest, (certified MB Indi master mechanic).

That's why I still have the perpetual 300D 5 spd project. Maybe one day it will be done. Right now it has half a black interior, I got distracted when putting in the black leather interior lol. And the plate expired, so no driving it for awhile.

I've done both front and rear on 124 and 201 cars, and it's doable. Just pay attention in that the door panels are removed by lifting UP and then off, not just pulling out. Find the DIY instructions or use the FSM.

Ours is pretty nice as well. Brilliant silver, with black tex.
Garage kept, full records, all updates, paint and interior still like new. And at 145K, it's still got a ways to go.

I'm not sure what it would take for my wife to let her baby go, but it would be much more than $6k before we would even consider selling it.
I mean, what else could I buy that would be as nice for that price?

ML? Erm, no. Not a wagon.
W210? No. Just not built like a W124.
W211? Maybe, but much more complex and not very user friendly, and a lot more expensive (still).

After 19 years of W124 ownership, I know these cars pretty well, and still derive great pleasure driving them. Moving on from my w124s will be tough, just like when I moved on to gassers from diesels, once the supply dried up, e.g.: had a 87 300TD for 13 years, then replaced it with the current 95 E320 wagon. When we bought the 95 in 2005, I paid a premium for our car, more than I could have paid for a newer W210 wagon at the time. I still feel I bought the better car.

Jim
