1995 E300D 230k $2000

I'm listing my father's E300D. It's a limited/special edition
230,000 miles.

The Good:
Evaporator replaced about 7 years ago
Vacuum pods replaced at the same time
Condenser and Compressor replaced about 4 years ago
Engine wiring harness replaced
Most of the interior is in good shape except for the driver seat.

The Bad
Broken glow plugs. I believe 4 are stuck in the head.
Leaking fuel lines
Father hit something and cracked the oil pan. Was able to use epoxy to seal the crack.
Cruise control not operational.
Paint, fair condition.

Engine will start, but may require starting fluid in cold conditions. Runs great when warmed up. This is the 6 cylinder non turbo 3.0L OM606 engine. mechanical fuel injection. 28-30 mpg. There should be no issues driving it to your home. My father drove it 80 miles round trip to work. He just retired last month, so he no longer needs this car. PM me with any questions. We are about 20 miles east of Memphis. Lots more pictures here:E300D pictures by mhartwigv8 - Photobucket

glow plugs

I see that the egr vacuum line and egr connecting rod are not attached. This may indicate a clean intake manifold. Are the glow plugs broken off or just not working?

Ok, I have a question. I've been to this stupid mobile photobucket site on several occasions and can't figure out how to get the images to a reasonable size. What am I doing wrong here?

We were able to get all the glow plugs out when we first got the car. Since we had to take off the manifold we saw how junked up it was, so the next thing was disabling the EGR.

The glow plugs are snapped. 1 has been reverse thread tapped to try to get it to come out

Sorry ascalise, I can't help with the mobile app.

I've uploaded more pictures to photobucket of the paint and damage to the bottom of the car. Looks like what he hit snapped the bracket for the sway bar, then the sway bar went back and hit the pan. It should be no issue to weld the bracket back together.

I'm trying to be completely honest about this car and am disclosing all the info I can about it. The car will need some TLC and repairs to get it back in good shape.

The transmission shifts fine, but there can be some random vac leaks that will cause it to shift hard. I've traced one down to the rear head rest.

AFAIK the car is completely rust free.

Bought the car a few weeks ago. Im very disappointed that he didn't mention that he ruined the head when he tried to drill one of the plugs out. He went in crooked and drilled into the head, mutilating it to where nothing would seal. It's very obvious and I don't see how anyone could not see what they had done.

Since finding a good used head is impossible, and new would exceed the value of the car, we are just going to leave the broken plug in and replace the remaining 5, which David was able to get out easily. Should run fine, but far from an ideal scenario.

Still looks like a nice ride. I bet an om603 would solve it if anything were to go south.

JB weld in the hole and thread a plug in and out a few times? I bet it would work.

Also, I am drooling for this car......itching to pounce....

I'm it will start and run fine on 5 glow plugs. The car would start pretty easily with none of them working and didn't take long until it warmed up and ran perfectly, so the compression is strong. I'd sell it to a forum member for $2500. It does look very nice in person and drives great. Now it has new head gasket plus most of the other stuff that gets in the way. Also the bracket for the sway bar has been welded back in place.

I don't think it will be very hard to get that on craigslist if I start at $2950 or $3500.

There is a '95 606 N/A here at the yard that had a dash fire... kinda melted some of the plastic parts on the rear of the engine, but otherwise may be fine.

When any of these glowplugs on a 606 are prepped to be drilled out and removed, you must remove the center electrode, before you can begin to drill and tap threads into the body of the glow plug. Whoever drilled glowplug number 5 out before Tyler bought the car, did not remove the electrode, and proceeded to just....drill into it. With an electrode in the way, being it is harder steel than the plug body, it will make the drill "walk" to the side, and inevitably, into the soft, aluminum head. Secondly, the threads are not to be "reverse tapped". They need merely be tapped normally so that a hardened bolt can screw into the body of the glowplug. Just some info for future forum members who might ponder attempting this method.

Also for future reference...

ANYTIME some Untermenschen mentions using Ether (Starting Fluid) for Ignition.

Guaranteed, They've NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!!!!!!!

Ether(Starting Fluid) use in a Prechamber diesel will BURN OUT the G.P.s FIRST!!!

Tyler , how does this car run when warmed up? I have the same vehicle and it cant get out of its own way. I don't get it! I replaced the injectors, did a diesel purge, replaced filters, cleaned out intake manifold and egr system. Car starts right up no matter if its minus 10 out and gets great mpg but it is such a dog and its dangerous because one cant even pass another person if they needed to.

NO ONE has been able to give me advice to correct it!
