The 500E fenders were not a needed modification to house the V8, they were used for larger tires on the 500E.

The 400E was a W124 version with V8 power that used the same fenders as the non-V8 models.

Having owned a few W124's with V8 power I think I'd pass on the V8 mod, the power is nice but working under the hood is really challenging. Very tight quarters for wrenching.

The V-8s had sheet metal mods, but they were confined to the trans tunnel area and under the hood to allow the V-8 to fit, although just barely.

They are a swine to work on under the hood.

Get rid of it!

The car is still in the driveway and I'm still insuring it. With that said and all the problems the car is suffering, how do I price it fairly?
I love the car but cannot afford the repairs. Your advice would be appreciated.

Post some pictures. It doesn't sound like it's an outrageous price for what's wrong with it.

You can easily tell if the harness is original by pulling back some of the insulation and check for any degradation. You can also pull the battery, and behind it would be some of the wiring harness with a tag attached. One side will be the design date, the other manufacture date. If the manufacture date is newer than your car, then you have the replacement harness.

Head gaskets often start as very small external oil leaks. If your car has some drippage from the back of the engine or very front, there's a good chance the HG is failing.

No educated buyer is going to step up to the plate without knowing these crucial facts.
Are all w124 wiring harness's suspect or was it certain years? Same question for the e320 and it's head gasket...

The evaporator is the real killer. I had a nice 95 wagon. Loved that car until the evaporator went. Your're looking at $4000+. Luckily I sold it to a weekend country house driver who didn't care about a/c. Although I love the W124, I would never take a chance on them again.

My 95 w124 wagon that I have owned for nearly 10 years, with 240,000 miles on it has the original wiring harness dated from 94 and has had no problems. Head gasket is another story. I have yet to see a w124 make it without having to replace the headgasket. I made it 180,000 miles but was pushing it when I had mine done.

I tried sending you a private message but am not sure if it went through? Do you still have this car for sale?

M119 has no head gasket worries. Yet another reason to consider the swap

M119 is a difficult fit in a 6-cylinder engine bay. 603 is a natural fit.
