1986 300SDL FOR SALE

Hi gang,

Made the momentous decision to sell my 1986 300sdl. Light blue with dark blue leather interior. Has the optional electric reclining rear seat. 125,000 original miles. "14" head. Interior is in nice shape. The blue dash has some cracks, it is covered with a carpeted dashmat. The rear deck is in nice shape, also covered in a dash mat. Original glass. Drivere's door panel has a small crack in the surface by the window from the sun. Wood is in good shape, leather and carpets in very nice shape. Panasonic CD in place of old Becker. Probably replaced about 10 years ago. I have owned this car for 7 years.
Last year new front rotors, brake pads, sensors, wheel bearings, upper control arms, rubber brake hoses and master cylinder. 3 years ago, remanufactured CCU panel, numerous vacuum pods replaced, 2 year old battery, tires are like new. Last year, new glow plugs and intake manifold gasket. EGR not fuctional for testing purposes. Does not burn any oil. Oil changes once a year or every 5000 miles.

Real world fuel mileage is 24-26 mpg when used on a daily basis.

THE BAD:
1. A/C compressor is bad. Include with the car is a remanufactured compressor, expansion valve and drier.
2. Left front Guide Mount needs to be replaced. Included with the car are all of the parts to fix this for both left and right sides. These are ORIGINAL MERCEDES PARTS from the Classic Center in California.
3. Rt front fender has a rather large dent from a tree branch that fell on it. Included with the car is a used front fender with no dents, but in the wrong color ( dark Blue)
4.Passenger front and rear doors have a dent in them from the previous senior citizen owner. It never broke the paint and they have not bothered me too much, as this was a daily driver.
5. The wheels have no paint on them at all. They are the polished aluminum, that remains when the paint is removed.
6. Either my keys are wearing out or the electrical portion of the ignition switch is flaky. You have to hold the key a certain way to make the glow plug light come on.
7. Transmission fluid leak from the area of the dipstick. Possibly from the torque converter plug?

Also included with the car are hundreds of dollars of spare parts that I have collected over the years, including oil filters, fuel filters, belts, hoses, thermostat, brand new radiator, extra electric cooling fan, CCU units, transmission filter, etc...

Pictures can be found when you look at the posts that I have made.
I would like $4000 for this car with all parts included. I have it for sale in my area also. I will also sell the car without all of the new parts for $3000.

If I am way out of line with my asking prices, please post and let me know.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this car, it is a great highway cruiser and it is very safe.

My job is taking up a lot more of my time than it did a few years ago, so therefore time to move on.

Thanks for looking http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=236458

Actually thinking of selling the VW also. I put 247 miles on it last year. It's a shame that it just sits in the garage.

By the way the 86 300sdl was sold originally in Monroe Louisiana in 1986. I purchased it from the original owner, a retired Radiologist. No rust anywhere, no snow or salt here. There is a spare tire in the trunk with the tool kit. Original owner's manual also.
I always thought that I would get the dents fixed and have the car re-painted but as with all projects, they fall by the wayside and then the project becomes a daily driver.

Sunroof works in tilt and slide, cruise control works, power locks work, electric antenna works. Climate control works great except for the A/C compressor. Monovalve guts replaced a few years back, and the one amp fuse upgrade placed in line with the power to the aux water pump. Blower motor fuse separate from fuse box from the factory as this was an upgrade in 1986. Rear speakers in the rear deck are from a 560sel ( 3 way ) and front speakers are stock with additional Volvo tweeters under the grilles. The fader switch works front to rear on the console, but I have a powered subwoofer in the trunk that plugs into the aux outputs of the stereo. Nice sounding system.
Memory works on both seats. The hood pad was replaced prior to my purchase. Headlight washeres and wipers work. Rear tailights have been upgraded to give me an extra tailight as shown on this forum numerous times. I used factory light bulb holders with 10 watt bulbs.

As I am writing all this, I am thinking am I crazy to sell this? This car has been a part of my life and they sure do not build them like this anymore. Seller's remorse????

Just found your post about the purchase. Looks nice!!! I have my tank for sale in town here also. If I sell it here, my stash of new parts will not go with it. Give me a holler if you need things as I have quite an extensive collection of parts. Not too far of a road trip from Memphis to West Monroe.
Of course if someone on this forum wants to purchase it, I will include a lot of the parts with the car.
Good Luck with Champagne!
John

I just spent a very productive Saturday with my SDL and have come to the conclusion that I just CANNOT sell it. These cars are just wonderful, and I apologize for getting all of you excited over it! LOL!

Seriously, these W126 sedans are so well built, Newer Benzes just are not the same.

First on my agenda, Guide Rod Mounts!
