Fellas,

I have in the past owned MB diesels, and come from a family who has owned MB diesels also. I currently have a 2002 VW Jetta TDI and am very familiar on how to work on diesel vehicles. I do all my work myself, and research ways to maintain vehicles so that they last and give utmost reliability. I would like to get a 1999 E300D for my wife. Her current car is not physically worth the money we will have to put into it to keep it up to snuff. It's time to invest in a vehicle that will be safe, and reward with better FE while being easy to maintain. I would prefer to purchase a vehicle like this from folks who are like minded about maintenance as I am. Looking forward to hearing from You all!

You're searching for a good car. However, most fellas on this forum love their 300DTs, so they probably won't part with them! There are a few nice examples on Fleabay. It all depends upon how much you're willing to spend.

I see that. I recently read about one a member here sold for 10,500 and the guy who bought it sold it to another who sold it to a guy who put it on Ebay for 16,500! It was a beautiful car, but way to rich for my blood. After reading about rust issues in the spring perch area and other issues, perhaps I should look for a TDI wagon instead.

I know your looking for a '99, but here is a seemingly very nice (well, other then the aftermarket wheels) non-turbo '96 in rare black over saddle leather that I just found on CL in your neck of the woods.

Asking $4900. Worth a look no?

1996 mercedes E300 diesel

You just have to check for rust on the spring perches. Try to find a well maintained one and have it inspected. My car has only had body panel rust, and no structural rust to date.
Sometimes you'll find a nice high mileage one out of a southern state which would be a safe bet.

Just to update. I ended up finding a cherry of a car. Found a 2005 E320 CDI. Medium blue in color, with tan leather interior. I love the HID projector headlights. What a great car! I'm glad I didn't find the 99 that I thought I wanted now that I have this. Thanks to the search function I have found some valuable info on how to keep on top of maintenance items on it.
