I spoke to the previous owner today. He said the car was never driven in the winter. He thinks the rust is due to it being stored in a barn with a wooden floor for many years. I once had a barn like that and there would be plenty of moisture from my experience.

He never had any major repairs and recalls taking it to the Mercedes dealer about four times for a complete "tune up" that lasted four hours. There is no paperwork except a few receipts from Cole Muffler and the original invoice for $5500.

A few years ago his friend changed all the fluids and got it running. At the time he drove it for several days with some borrowed dealer plates and had no issues.
