Exclamation 1984 Euro 500SEC

Check out this cool 1984 Euro blue-green 500SEC I came across while browsing CL!

It's well equipped too, heated seats & ABS! Nice they kept the euro headlights w/ wipers.
I'd loose the chrome wheels though

1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC - $8,990

It looks pretty cool! I drove a euro five hundred once either and 84 or 85. it was pretty cool. It would spin the tires taking off even though it had the 224 diff, positraction etc. The tires were a little suspect though as in not new or a good brand.

I have/had the privilege of owning three Euro 500SEC's two 1984's, One 1986. One was the Blue Bird, currently in East St. Paul Minn with 450SL_in_Minn., and the other 1984, Mosby, is here with me now. I also own a 1986 Gen II Euro 500SEC (Rose) as well.

Very, Very, Few Gen II Euro 500 SEC's made it to the states, because MB, in their infinite wisdom, chose not to import them to bite into the "New"(1986) 560 SEC sales. Also, the grey market was just about done in and due to the currency devaluation, the costs were really up to import and federalize.

A side note: The Gen II 500 engine shares everything with the 560 engine, except the crank and rods.

All three 500 SEC's ROCK!!!!

BTW that green car looks great.

That's a nice SEC and the mileage sure is low.

I wonder if the 75,721 miles are real?

What gives it away that it's been changed?

What sort of HP rating are we looking at with the 500SEC?

It's a euro spec car with a MPH speedo... only the UK and North America had those, and I don't think that's a UK car.

It was probably changed by Mario's Motors when they "federalized" it.

In referencing Nitske's M-B Production Models Book,

'81-'91 European 500SEC
231 hp (DIN) ('89-'91 252 hp DIN)
297 ft/lb ('89-'91 288 ft/lb)

VS.
'84-'85 U.S. 500SEC
184 hp (SAE)
247 ft/lb

Hey, Long time no see SEC..LOL

Cool,

Hey Paul, How r U? Seen Enrique Lately? Hope he's around for a long time.
I might have him look at my sunroof.
It opens but has to be cranked sht...arrgh

Hey Chad congrats on all the secs.

I have a 83 500 sec euro.

Are the wheels centra type?
AC might be us version
Euro bumpers
Single snorkel...mine is enclosed & fits into front

Cool on the Euro lights.
Still not sure how to determine that.

Mine has US headlights but I do have headlights from a 89 or 90 56o SEC.

Debating whether to try to upgrade but think its best to stay the way it is.

All I know is when I bought the car the guy made the headlights move from inside the car.
I still don't know how to do it

Cool car

MB_FanAddict,

The statement below does not address the ECE engines, or the RUF engined SEC's /SE. or SEL's.
My 1986 Euro RUF 500SEC has 220KW w/9:1 CR.
Later in 1987 everything Euro went to 10:1 CR and were the ECE engines.

'81-'91 European 500SEC
231 hp (DIN) ('89-'91 252 hp DIN)
297 ft/lb ('89-'91 288 ft/lb)

VS.

No, it does not. The first figure is correct reflecting the 1984 model in question.
After doing some research, the second figures are for a MY87-on (not '89) catalyst equipped version of the 5.0 M117.

No, your car and no 500 for that matter came with 220kW. 220kW's is what the ECE 560's were rated at.

A gen II Euro 500 is equivalent to a US spec 560 in terms or power and performance.

You are right, I mis-typed, mine is 200KW according to MB archives for this VIN and DR Sternschuppe, the 560 ECE is 220KW.
