Thanks Edge. Yeah if I was in the market for a coupe, I would be all over it for $2000. Maybe the economy? After I lost my job in 2011 of 15 years, things got scary for a while. So, I can understand if people are a bit timid to part with any money for a obviously less practical car than a sedan. But it's great to drive!

Craigslist is free, deal in cash only as there are a lot of scammers fishing for fools there. Ebay charges you $125 if you get a bid at your reserve price even if the deal is not consummated. You can start your auction at $200 with a reserve price at $2125 to cover the fee. I am surprised that this board hasn't shown interest however a lot of people on this board want a better than reasonable deal. Don't mind them keep your price and it should sell in a reasonable time. The only thing holding some people back may be that it is a non turbo. But coupes are so much nicer than sedans. I've decide to keep mine as I sold my E420. Good luck.

Looks interesting.

I wouldn't be able to add anything to the flock for 4-6 weeks, so GLWS and if nothing pans out let me know.

if your ebay deal doesn't go through because of a 'deadbeat' buyer you get your money back from ebay

But, do you get the listing fee back if the deal goes south afterward?

That's not what I understand from a guy who was selling an 87 300D on Ebay. He said he had to eat 4 fees @ $125 a shot with 4 reneggfed sellers. To jusme, I don't think there is a listing fee for your first six listings.

Hey guys, I have a question. I've had some interest about the car, a couple people came to drive it, but ending up wanting to trade, and I really need to drastically lessen my total number of cars (due to some VSTECH grade neighbors), so I cant do that. A few others are interested, but waiting for money, or out of a job..etc. which I understand from recently experiencing it. So, my question is this. I have a place where the car can just sit inside, covered, and out of the weather for the next few years. I really hate to even sell it for what I'm asking, but with the small amount of interest that seems to be out there, and coupling that with the fact I'm traveling with work and have very little time to tend to listing the car, and not really wanting to have the wife responsible for meeting people to do all the paperwork, collect money..etc, I'm wondering if I should just have a shop start finishing up the restoration work and put this car ahead of the 1987 300TD I bought that needs some attention in making it a bone stock head turner. I really will use the wagon alot, even daily, which is why the coupe made it to the top of my "parting with" list. It's just too impractical at my age and with my schedule and cargo needs. But, if the coupe will sell for much more in even better shape, I dont mind pouring more money into it to ensure it goes to a good home. I just hate to put it in front of the wagon. The last option as I mentioned is locking it up in a building for a few years. Maybe to slowly start to part it out at I get time. It's in amazing shape, and will give a PILE of sweet donor parts. If I go the parting it out route, it will be a few years away unless my job falls through.

I'm really interested in hearing any thoughts on this. I truly wish it was already with a new owner enjoying it and tinkering with it. But, in this economy, I may have to look at some other options.

Thanks!

If the car being traded (trade offers) would turn out to be of more value (vs. the $2,000 asking for the CD) and would be easier (faster) to sell (at least for $2,000 -- which is your target for the sale of the CD) then I suggest to take that chance.

Don't part it out if it's not a rustbucket...hell I won't part mine out even though it's got rust and a bad engine. I think the most sensible thing is to store it for a few years...start it up a few times a year but otherwise leave it alone. If the economy picks back up, as I expect it will, then you should be able to get a lot more for it, plus the fact that there are less of these remaining with each passing day. Look at the prices of ANY Mercedes, whether one decade old or three, compared to the same from a few years ago. Now is a great time to buy, and difficult time to sell. So if you have the space to store the car, by all means do it!

Yeah, I'm leaning toward holding onto it. The only reason I listed it for sale first, was how rare they are versus sedans, the fact I'm not using it, and it's got the best paint of all of them. I'm just a little confused as to why it's not gone. Like I said, many offering trades, and a few want it for cash, but a couple of them are between jobs...etc. So, I'm not sure just yet.

It surprises me too. A W123 coupe for $2k should have been snatched up super-fast. When I found mine for $2k I negotiated to buy it after my next paycheck a couple weeks out without second thought or trying to barter about with the price, and that was with obvious rust issues, a dent in the passenger side, obvious neglect, badly oxidized paint that you couldn't even tell was signal red except by the code plate under the hood, an engine bay full of oil everywhere, and an interior smelling strongly of tobacco.

Haven't done much with it yet, but fixed the paint and installed some nice wheels (http://osss.net/IMG_0124.JPG).

I'm sure I'll be more motivated once the market starts picking back up.

I will say I never liked the look of silver/blue MB's in pictures. But I recently bought a really cheap rusty one for parts, and in person it's quite stunning!

Yeah, it's quite striking in person. But, the PO had the Bundts painted the same color as the car. NOT a fan of that...

For the record, this is THE rarest W123 imported to the US, total production of 7502. Turbo coupes had 8007, putting them in close second. The only things produced less WORLDWIDE than those two combined were the long-wheelbase models, a 280 carburetor coupe, and 230/250 carburetor wagons.

Mercedes-Benz 123 series ? Production figures | Daimler Global Media Site > Classic > Mercedes-Benz Cars > Mercedes-Benz P. Cars > E-Class

I wonder if my 200D actually has any value - looks like they produced rather a lot of them. Just not many got imported to the USA.

I've had a few people that seem interested in the last few days email me. If anyone here is interested, and has their own tires, I can break a couple hundred off the price. I'm always in need of new 14" tires, and these are about brand new!
