A legitimate Mercedes dealer would NEVER put someone else's nameplate on their car. The Imperial logo is a trademarked brand of Chrysler corporation. It would be like Ford putting on a Cadillac "DeVille Limited Edition" nameplate on a Continental. It's jut not done.

Definitely a aftermarket adornment.

That would still make it unoriginal to this car. Its a really nice looking car, and I hope you do well with it. However, there is no record that I can turn up of the other 99 cars. Maybe someone just put it together. Even the shift knob is a copy of a later style that wasn't offered in 1995.

It took me a few minutes to get that reference, LOL.

Ok, so it's not an official factory or MBUSA issue "edition", and maybe the dealer or first owner got carried away.

However, I'm intrigued that someone took great effort to match the font of "Imperial" on the trunk with the font of "Imperial" on the speedo face piece and on that plaque.

Love to see a closeup of the plaque

The "Imperial" badge was simply screened on the aftermarket gauge face I'm sure.

Definitely not official or original. Nice try, but I wasn't fooled.
If anyone here has ever opened a performance products catalog...plus note the late 90's C-class wheels & radio.

Aftermarket additions aside, the imperial red paint is quite nice!
Every once in awhile you''ll come across a W124 in this color. I've even seen an E300D in this red!

The seller doesn't mention, but it does have the optional heated seats (you'd think for $80K they'd be standard!).

Imperial Army - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki

Darth Vader was part of the Imperial era, Imperial March, etc etc...

I would try and remove all of that "Imperial" junk and put the car back to normal.

OK, I never was a Star Wars geek. I kinda like the Imperial Edition additions. Something like what GM does with trucks and their Texas Edition. Chevrolet Silverado gets Texas Edition for 2012

you may like it, that's great if you keep the car. But most buyers will not, guarantee it. If I was looking for another cabriolet I would look for one that was unmolested. If I were to buy yours I'd have to get it for a very good price so I can then correct the issues to make the car correct.

How are the top hydraulics, at 17 years they are bound to have some weeping and or leaks. My main lift rams lasted 16 years, rebuilt all 8 of mine.

Top works fine. I'll have to look for any leaks. Is there a how to for rebuilding the rams?

I made a DIY on how to remove them. Its easier to send them out to someone that knows how to rebuild them.

Operate the top as you normally would on a level surface. Cycle it one or two times and then pop the tonneu cover and let it stay open and inspect the lock area for leaks. Then close it all up and look at the area of the body forward of the rear tires. When mine leaked it poured out hydraulic fluid from that area and from the tonneu cover lock.

There are 8 rams. 2 in the trunk to lift the tonneu cover, 1 in the cover to lock the top, 2 main lifts (which are around $1200 each from MBZ) as well as 2 other rams in the same area as the main rams and then the lock it self for the tonneu cover which is accessible if you remove the liner from the convertible top storage area and remove its cover.

Also, do you have the factory windscreen for the car as well? Those are desirable to have and very hard to come by.

Do understand that this car is somewhat rare and desirable. I needed to get new sun visor mirror inserts (which are not available separate) and replacements were around, I believe $275 a side (if only I had the other interior color which those were only $130 each)

The o ring seal on the rams seems to deteriorate as a function of time, as well as use.

If the top rams are leaking, they will dump fluid in front of the rear wheels.

You can also monitor the level of the fluid reservior (pull RH trunk liner).

The main top frame rams (4) can be accessed by pulling the rear seat and then the side panels. Top rear lock and the tonneau lock as well as the tonneau rams are not hard to get to.

Be especially careful when removing the hydraulic lines, the retaining clips are unobtainable without buying a new ram.

Sunvisors interchange with the R129 SL.

If you really want to remove the external Chrysler emblems, use a piece of dental floss and "saw" them off, then clean off the adhesive. I'd personally remove the outside ones, but a potential buyer might find them desirable.... Everybody has their own taste. When I was looking for my cabriolet, I found a red one in Florida, and the owner had a set of new tires on the original alloys, and the tires had been modified to have thin whitewalls. As I said, different tastes.

Incorrect Jim, I bought new clips for my lines without an issue. I think they were a few bucks each.

Ahh, that's good.
Those little buggers tend to fly away.

My comment was based upon what I'd read prior to doing the job.
