1995 E320 Convertible Imperial Edition FS

For sale in a few months after doing some service and maintenance. Just detailed the outside and took some pictures which is why I'm posting now. It's got 137K miles. It's a limited edition, #17 of 100, Imperial Red cars that Mercedes fancied up to commemorate the last year of the bodystyle. It includes the wood steering wheel, white gauges, wider wheels and tires, special trim, etc. I have more pictures at: http://www.fototime.com/inv/4EC602FD99D6FF2 I'll probably be asking $11,995 depending on how much service I do to it.

Just asking

I'm asking to learn something, not to confront or flame:

What is fancied up (your words) about this "Imperial Edition"?

Because MB sold only 100 Imperial Red cabs in 1995, is that what makes it a "limited Edition"?

I didn't notice any special trim in your pics- what is different than any other 95?

Again, just asking to learn.

Other than a commemorative dash plaque it has a wood steering wheel, white gauges, unique interior trim pieces, wider wheels and tires, etc.

I've never heard of an Imperial edition either.
Maybe this was an overture to Chrysler, pre merger?

Regardless, there's some nice upgrades on it...good luck with the sale.
These are wonderful cars, I love mine, it's on my never sell short list.

Please post a close up pic of the dash plaque. Interesting indeed.

Exterior looks good, now get the carpet cleaned- pro detailer, or use a Green Machine extractor, or a good cleaner and a shop vac

Is the imperial package or the individual items listed as options in the datacard?

I have never heard of an "Imperial Edition" and the badges look somewhat un-Mercedes-like. Seems to be all aftermarket add-ons to me, not factory pieces. But, I'd like to see a close-up photo of the plaque attached to the passenger airbag, for grins. Is there any factory documentation for the "Imperial Edition"? I've heard of some late build 124's sold as "Special Editions" with some different equipment, including different wheels, etc... but I've never heard of an Imperial Edition.

Nice looking car, btw!

Yes, I agree, very nice car.

In regards to the emblems, those are early 90's Chrysler Imperial fender emblems. I know because my mom had one. See attached pics.

I seriously doubt MB would put another American car brand-name on their vehicle. It was undoubtably added on by someone other than MB which is why no one has heard of an Imperial Edition. However, there was an actual "Imperial Red" paint color though (paint code 582/3582), which is where the confusion comes from.

The font of the "E320" doesn't match the font of the "EDITION" (not to mention the "Imperial"). Mercedes would have used the same font for both.

It might be a first. I don't recall identifying badging on Special Editions, Grand Editions or Silver Arrows. Or it might have been a regional or dealer package. Also unusual to see an original speedo of that vintage without a VDO logo and part number.

It looks like a dealer add on package to me. The selling dealer was throwing in some nicer trim to try and move the car in its last production year.

Nice car!

Not anything that MB would have done. Most likely an amateur hack job or a greedy dealer who had nontastemto try to bump up their profit.
