I love our Smart car... It is 2005 and I have 10,200 miles on it.. Real Mini Benz that came to Oregon via Canada in 2005 when they were just below $30K..This one has sports suspension and wide rear wheels..Air, electric windows, dual shifting (manual or auto 6 gears) heated leather seats etc.. 30 - 40 miles per a gallon and not a scratch on it.. very clean fast go cart.
All was well until our 16 years old got licence last Friday and our insurance went up $1900 per year due to our newst car - SMART car..2 other cars are older Mercedes cars..
So we decided to sell it.
Asking $ 11,000 but want to be reasonable and listen what you guys have to say.. No idea what the value is.. and would love to trade it for something older..any Benz coupe 111 body or an older SL from 1970-80's..even 1980's 380 - 560 SEC.. Anything older that a young man would enjoy and insurance would not kill us all.

Your insurance didn't go up because of the Smart car, it's because of a 16 year old male driver.

Gas or diesel engine? I know the US ones were gas but maybe the import is diesel?

Yes, the jump in your insurance has more to do with the newly-minted driver than the car. I have two daughters on my insurance and it is staggering. I believe insurance for boys is even more than for girls. Good luck!

Diesel Smart would be neat, much neater than a gasser. I've always wondered though about the trade offs of this car - the mpg isn't that high (compared to say, a Geo Metro), but there's a lot less space in the car, limiting its use. I'm sure it's probably a safer car though, and longer-lasting. Back when I owned a Metro, this car wasn't available yet but There were articles about the concept and I wanted one...now I prefer the S-class, on the opposite extreme.

Your 2005 Mercedes Smart Car are looking very nice and just new,.
I hope you get the better price by selling it easily,.
