FS: 1987 300TD Wagon Providence, RI

I recently purchased a 1987 300TD as a car to work on, learn about, drive for a period of time, then sell. It's smoke silver, palomino interior, essentially no rust (faint beginnings at jack points, easily fixed with POR-15), 269,000 miles, #17 head (according to previous owner, replacement engine has about 100,000 miles on it).

Some pics at photobucket.com/1987Mercedes300TD.

However, I think I've concluded that it's just more than I'm going to be able to address due to my limited mechanical skills. If I pay to get various things repaired, it will just be a losing proposition. I figure it's a better project car for someone with better mechanical capabilities; I just need to cut my losses and turn it over to someone who can bring it back to great condition (which shouldn't be too difficult for the right person). I have put up an ad on Craigslist, but I thought I'd see if there's interest on the forum.

My Craigslist price is $2,000; I will sell it to a forum member for $1,700.

When I bought it, it had a broken throttle, which I had repaired. I changed the oil and the ATF. It has a rough idle which I'm fairly confident will be cured by replacing the leaking delivery valve seals. But once it gets above idle, it drives fine.

Here are its main "issues": ball joints, front rotors, leaking right hyrdraulic shock, right rear wheel bearing....it failed inspection because of these.

In addition, the following do not work: AC, cruise control, driver's side windows, sunroof, exterior temp gauge.

The exterior is in pretty good shape, with a few exceptions: scratches on the roof, some clearcoat peeling on the hood, and a missing plastic shield below the front bumper.

The interior is in good condition, except for the front seats (leather of a different color and ripped...but they are comfortable) and a detached sunroof liner. I have a lead on good condition matching replacement seats for $100.

Like I say, it's now up on Craigslist....but I figure it's the guys on this forum who are most likely to give it the attention it deserves. You can email me through the forum or call me at Nine72.52three.one743 if you have questions. Thanks.

Who would have guessed that late Gen2 W126 seats would fit in a W124

Nice find GLWS.. If it was a bit later in the summer season, I would have snapped this one up to relieve my SD.. Still pondering my TDT purchase in the garage..

My friends urged me to get her saying it looks like a baby W126... Ummm.. I don't think so.. LOL

Sold to a local forum member. Good guy who seems like he'll be able to give it the attention it deserves.
