82 300D with 4-speed manual conversion
This is a 1982 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbodiesel. This car has been converted to a 4-speed manual transmission which I can tell you certainly helps out when you have a turbo that engages at 2K RPM. It makes it much snappier off the line.
I have owned 4 of these cars and our family has collectively owned over 10. I can tell you they are reliable cars for sure. I have worked on the vehicle myself only taking to a shop for alignments and A/C work. The list of work on the car is lengthy but I will give it a go: -New turbocharger in 2008 -New brake rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers, new hoses 2 years ago -New tires in the last 2 years -Oil changed every 5K miles with synthetic 5W-40 due it is low cold-cranking resistance for improved cold starts (gets into the single-digits here in the winter) -Injector nozzle replaced 2 years ago I feel it only fair to list those things as I have done much more (owned the car for 10 years), but I don't think that listing things past 4 years is relevant. This is my wife's car and she babied the car over all 10 of the years so if you get this one you will be getting a gem. This a great car to work on if you have any level of mechanical skill and enjoy tinkering. It can also be converted to run on vegetable oil as a backup or primary fuel, there are plenty of resources out there that sell kits and have DIY guides on the subject. I'm asking $2500 but that is not firm and I will negotiate. Full disclosure: This car is not able to be smogged without adding all the smog control equipment such as: EGR, trap oxidizer, etc. The smog equipment was removed some years prior to the county that I live in requiring smog checks. As such that is one reason we are selling the car, so if you purchase it keep in mind in NV Washoe county requires smog. In CA you should be fine as we lived there too and did not have to smog it. In addition the Odometer stopped turning recently on this car which is a common problem in this age of MB Diesel. The mileage is within 5K of the odometer and I have only driven the car maybe 100 miles since 4/2012. List of stuff that doesn't work: -Odometer -A/C -I have the radio and speakers but didn't install them when I pulled them from the last MB diesel I owned. I will include them in this sale for you to install/have installed. Link for Craigslist Ad: 82 Mercedes 300D 4-Spd Manual Trans, Runs well - $2500 (Reno, NV) |
