Something fishy about this one... where is the oil filter? If he often gets complements about the car why does it have a temporary tag?

Maybe the temporay tag is to expedite test drives? I can't help but toying with the idea of picking up one of these W123 vintage year(s) of 240Ds/300Ds one day.

Am I being too critical to expect an engine compartment in better appearance than this one? My data point of owning an SD to the age of 16-years, and 305K miles in Texas, in five times better visuals is why I'm mentioning this - since this car only has 187K miles on it. Perhaps being garaged 100% of the time is why my '83 SD was so outstanding in it's finish and engine compartment, and absence of any kind of rust.

A qualified "maybe." There aren't the usual problems that the OM616/7 seem to have on clear display, along with 5th owner neglect. This doesn't look too bad to me, there's no oil drip/stain from the breather, obvious fluid stains from a bad front main seal, leaking PS pump, oil spills, or leaking exhaust/intake gasket. I've owned a beater 240D that had all those problems, and only 1 I could easily fix...be darned if it wasn't the most reliable car I've owned though!

I took a second, longer look at the engine bay pic. It really looks pretty good on second glance, for a higher-mileage, original, non-museum piece. The front seats look as if they've been re-stuffed - have the telltale 'bloated' look. .....yuk....my Brother had that done to his 77 240D's front seats, and it looked awful.
